Sean Garrett recently checked in with HipHopWired to speak on a number of topics including his new record label and his mentor Jay-Z.

While on the campus of Clark Atlanta University, ‘The Pen’ revealed that he’s started “Bet I Penned It” records and recently signed a new artist.

When asked what it takes to get signed to his imprint he said,

“You just gotta be hot. I’m probably more turnt up than I’ve ever been. I’m excited, I’m in love with life, I’m in love with the music. I’m in love with being a superstar. And If you’re in love with being a superstar, you need to come Fawk with me, yah heard?”

This multi-platinum producer also added that he’s especially happy for Jay-Z and Beyonce, especially since Jay gave him his “The Pen” nickname and has been a mentor to him in the music business.

“You can’t have mentors like Jay-Z, you can’t be named ‘The Pen’ by Jay-Z and have mentors like Diddy…and not turn it up. I’m just trying to further my career. […] It’s a beautiful thing, I’m really happy for them. She looks so joyous, you can see that she and Jay are really happy.”
