Tuesday, October 6 was meant to be the day when rapper Shyne would finally be out of confinement as he was scheduled to be released from prison. This, however, was not the case as he is still being detained and is now facing the possibility of being deported.
Shyne’s attorney Oscar Michelen emphasized on Tuesday afternoon that Shyne has not been released, contrary to what media reports had said.
His release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize.
“Shyne is currently in federal custody while his future immigration status is determined,” stated a representative for the rapper to MTV News.
Since the passing of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, residents that are aliens to the country have faced more exposure to a larger amount of deportations, which has been based off of criminal acts.
After 9-11, the law became even stricter and things such as drunk driving or shoplifting could be used as a means to have a person removed from the country.
Angie Martinez, host of Hot 97 in New York expressed her disbelief and disgust with how the rapper is being treated and the fact that he has already serve the time for what he did back in 1999.

Upon hearing the news of his release, some artists went into a frenzy about the return of their own and it seemed as though no time was wasted in trying to sign the artist to a label.
“WELCOME HOME SHYNE !!!,” Game wrote Tuesday. “9 YEARS IN THE JOINT ON SOME BULLSH!#$, GOTTA FEEL GOOD TO BE FREE…… BWS/GANGLAND !”
Some would figure that a man would receive a break after serving eight years in the bing, but these types of measurements must be exercised it seems as the country has tightened itself up as it pertains to “protecting” the citizens.
It just feels hilarious that with all of the KNOWN aliens within the country, they choose Shyne to flex their muscle and asset their purpose. Way to kick a man back down.
