Man Receives Death Threats Over OF Complaints

The man who complained to Auckland City Council officials about Odd Future’s homophobic lyrics, ultimately getting the group removed from a New Zealand music festival lineup, is the subject of death threats.

Calum Bennachie, reported OFWGKTA’s scheduled appearance at the Big Day Out Festival to the Auckland City Council and made a fuss about the groups controversial lyrics. The group was later pulled from the lineup.

According to Bennachie, since the group was crossed off the list of performers, he has gotten several threats to his life.

“Too often gay men are targeted as objects of violence or ridicule in the streets, the perpetrators feeling safe in doing so because of the messages in hate music,” Bennachie told the New Zealand Herald.

“I hope that by now, Big Day Out have learned their lesson, and will not continue to bring over music that specifically threatens people with violence.”

The Big Day Out Festival is taking place from January 20 to February 5 with scheduled performances from Kanye West, SoundGarden, Chemical Romanc, Girl Talk and others.
