Common To Join Legends Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle At BET Honors 2012

For next month’s BET Honors 2012 , the star-studded event boasts a line-up stacked with legendary veterans, popular entertainers of today and a host of up and coming younger artists from the realms of film, television and music. The “Queen Of Soul” Aretha Franklin is one of the headlining performers for the event, joining fellow songstress Patti Labelle as well A$$ 19 year rap veteran Common.

Gracing the stage alongside such legends will only add to the Chicago MC’s steadily increasing profile. Roc Nation singer Willow Smith and actors Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr. are also slated to be on the bill. Actress Gabrielle Union will serve as host for the lavish affair, as BET will recognize innovators and celebrated icons in a variety of fields. Poet Maya Angelou (Literary Arts), singer Stevie Wonder (Musical Arts), singer Mariah Carey (Entertainment), director Spike Lee (Media), Tuskegee Airmen (Service), and Beverly Kearney (Education) will all receive honors.

Back to Common’s profile, the Windy City rhyme slinger recently interviewed with rap savvy funnymen Eric and Jeff Rosenthal from ItsTheReal, and their clever MTV Check In segment, with Com Sense hamming it up during the silly, if endearing, interview (below) including asking Common about Maya Angelou’s poetry feature on his latest album The Dreamer, The Believer.

The BET Honors 2012 event will be taped January 14 at Washington, D.C.’s historic Warner Theatre. The televised event will air on February 13 on the BET network at 9 PM EST.
