Kanye West Tweets About Clothing Line, Grammy Nominations

Kanye West had the Twitterverse sitting on the edge of their seats Wednesday night (Jan. 4) when he launched into yet another online rampage.

West, who has been a ghost on the social networking site as of late, forged a seemingly endless rant starting with his clothing line and ending in a quote from a Nobel Prize winner. The Chicago rapper kicked off his social media marathon session by dispelling rumors that the line was named after his late mother, Donda. “I appreciate everyone’s support for my clothing line but I wanted to clarify a few things,” he began. “The name of the line is Kanye West not DW… The Dw was a design element placed on the invite in homage to my mom.

Despite receiving mixed reviews upon its Paris debut last fall, Yeezy spoke fondly of his designs and the joys of creating. “They say [sic] you only live once but every time I come to work I feel like I’m starting a second life,” he explained. Becoming a designer started out as an uphill battle for the 33-year-old, that was nearly derailed by the backlash from his legendary intoxicated appearance at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, but it appears that he’s back on track. According to West he has been working on the line for nearly a decade and funded the entire project himself. “You guys might think I have some type of backing for my line but I don’t. I did the first fashion show out of my own pocket and used the money I made touring to follow my passion.”

From there Yeezy touched on everything from firing the William Morris Agency after the resignation of agent Cara Lewis, to leading the pack of Grammy nominations at this year’s ceremony. However, given his unsavory reputation for award show outbursts, he’s understandably hesitant to attend. “I appreciate having the most nominations at the Grammies but I feel so conflicted by the fact that award shows sometimes are completely…illogical,” he wrote.

No one knows when his next great fashion or music creation will be introduced to the world but West teased his over 5 million Twitter followers with the news that he has assembled a team which includes designers, lawyers, scientists, and bankers to “create, advertise and produce products driven equally by emotional want and utilitarian need.” The new venture, DONDA, is named after his mother and in the interest of “picking up where Steve Jobs left off,” and recruiting influential professionals to “directly affect governments,” he even gave out an email address for those interesting in getting involved that is likely receiving tons of submissions at this moment.

Yeezy closed his diatribe with a quote from Nobel Prize playwright George Bernard Shaw: “If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.

West doesn’t drop these online jewels very often, but when he does at least they’re entertaining.
