French Montana raised plenty of eyebrows when he signed to Bad Boy Records. But according to the self-proclaimed Talk of New York, rolling with Bad Boy was a no brainer despite the label’s well documented track record of disgruntled artists. Speaking to Real Talk NY, the Bronx rapper said he had his bases covered when it came to negotiating his contract.

“I find it kind of weird; how can somebody jerk you and they give you the paperwork for your lawyer to see,” said French. “It’s not like they tricking you. It’s not like them words get up in the middle of the night and change onthe contract. You just gotta get the best lawyers. Of course Puff going to have the best lawyers. So you need to get the best lawyers and make sure it works for you.”

Apparently, Fench’s lawyers finagled new ground when it comes to artists on the Bad Boy Records roster.

“I think I’m the first person, and I ain’t tell this to nobody, only y’all, I’m the first person in the whole history of Bad Boy not to sign my publishing to Bad Boy or Puff,” he revealed. “Ya know, everything I asked for Puff kept his word.”

We’re going to guess French, who Bad Boy debut Pardon My French is due later this year, didn’t peruse those contracts over e-mail.
