“Freeway” Ricky Ross has emerged in the news of late as a result of a high profile case against Miami rapper Rick Ross over the use of his namesake. Now, the reformed drug lord is said to be in talks with Hollywood stars to craft a biopic on his life.

In an interview with The BoomBox yesterday (March 1), Ross revealed that the film’s production is still undergoing and that some big names are slated to join the project. Despite some delays, more progress is shortly underway thanks to Heidi Levitt, one of Hollywood’s top casting agents.

“With all the Academy Awards stuff going on, she’s [Levitt] been busy, but she says she’s going to start working with us within 30 days,” shared Ross. “Right now it’s about 26 days. I’m counting every day.”

Director of Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) will be helming the camera for the biopic, although Ross’ team is still gathering funds and backers. Ross may be able to get actor-comedian Jamie Foxx on board as well. “Jamie Foxx called me two or three months ago and told me how much he loved the script, how much he loved the story, and the things I’m doing right now with my life,” said Ross. “He thinks it’s going to be an Academy Award-type movie.”

Ross has said he’s had talks with actors Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Gosling, saying he will defer to the Levitt to cast the film. Ross, 52, served 13 years in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar drug operation. Long since removed from the trade, Ross has involved himself in a variety of community outreach projects since his release in 2009.
