Violence in Hip-Hop is nothing new, but one particular incident has rapper Nipsey Hussle up in arms. The West Coast MC, is outraged that his appearance at an Tempe, Arizona nightclub was riddled with violence, forcing him to cancel the gig. “My deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the victims and their families who were affected by the tragic event that took place last night in Arizona,” Nipsey wrote via his Tumblr page over the weekend. “I pray for the speedy recovery for anyone involved.”

Despite being affiliated with the Rollin 60s Crips gang, the rhymer—born Ermias Asghedom—has denounced violence. “I grew up on the streets of south central Los Angeles and have witnessed many tragedies in my lifetime,” he added. “I never glorify any situation like this and think it is disgusting. Any fan of my music knows that I strongly oppose gun violence, and that I represent nothing but peace and progress through hard work.”

Thirteen victims were reportedly shot and wounded during the mele outside The Clubhouse Music Venue, which left two people in critical condition. While only one of the three suspects have been apprehended for the shooting, authorities have done a lackluster job of pinpointed the remaining criminals, identifying them as “two Black men in dark clothing.”
