So the big theatrical trailer for Men in Black 3 has finally hit, and when Will Smith’s J says “he’s getting too old for this,” it kinda strikes a chord. With a 10-year gap between films, the trailer really needed to prove that the franchise isn’t losing steam, but the preview coasts along at cruising speed without landing any laugh-worthy punchlines or high-concept hijinks to confirm the series has still got a heartbeat.

It doesn’t even look like the film’s time travel gimmick will offer any fresh insights into Tommy Lee Jones’ K character, who—through the exceptionally talented mimicry of Josh Brolin—seems to be exactly the same person in the past that we know him to be in the present. Seriously, if you’d never heard of Will Smith before this movie, would you have given this trailer a second thought?
