George Zimmerman Released From Jail, Taken To An Undisclosed Location

Less than two weeks after turning himself in for the murder of Trayvon MartinGeorge Zimmerman has been released from jail. The 28-year-old posted bond, and left the John E. Polk Correctional Facility early and Monday morning (April 23). He has been taken to an undisclosed location, for his own protection.

Judge Kenneth R. Lester granted Zimmerman’s release on $150,000 bond, last Friday. The judge allowed the former neighborhood watch volunteer freedom under the conditions that he not carry a firearm, and abstain from drinking or doing drugs. Prosecutors originally requested he be held without bond, or that the amount be raised to $1 million.

According to his lawyer, Mike O’Mara, the Florida resident knows that he’s not yet in the clear. “He’s still very worried about the fact that he’s facing a life sentence on a 2nd-degree murder charge,” he told reporters over the weekend.

Zimmerman is expected to enter a not guilty plea, and has claimed self-defense in the shooting. Prior to his release, ABC News ran photos of him bleeding from the top of the head, which falls in line with his claim that Martin was the attacker.

While on the stand at his hearing, Zimmerman apologized to the teen’s parents, stating that he “did not know how old he was.”
