Lions wide reciever, Calvin “Megatron” Johnson narrowly edged out NFL Rookie of the year, Cam Newton to grace the cover of EA’s Madden NFL 13. We say “win” tongue in cheek because the feared Madden Curse proved that it was alive and well last year as Browns running back, Peyton Hillis, suffered from injury and a down year in his season as the previous Madden coverboy.

Johnson is coming off a career season in which he caught 96 passes for a league-best 1,681 yards and 16 touchdowns. He became the third player in NFL history with at least 95 receptions, 1,600 yards and 15 touchdowns in a season, joining Jerry Rice and Randy Moss.

“I’m not a big guy for curses and I don’t even think about it,” Johnson told the Detroit News yesterday.  “It’s not surprising because you’ve been hearing about the curse forever. It doesn’t surprise me; I hear about it from the fans.”
