Now that he’s out of jail, George Zimmerman doesn’t need the money he was begging for. The accused killer of Trayvon Martin has officially shut down the website which he launched to solicit donations from his alleged supporters, two weeks ago.
A spokesperson for Zimmerman’s lawyer, Mike O’Mara, confirmed Wednesday (April 25) that the website will remain defunct, as the goal is for the 28-year-old to have “no web presence.” His team’s new game plan is a far cry from the reasoning that motivated him to ask the public for financial assistance. In a page-long post on the site, Zimmerman explained that due to the “incident” and “media coverage” he was unable to leave his home,and forced to quit his job. He also promised to give his supporters “full attention without any intermediaries.”
Two days later, his original attorneys quit, in what turned out to be series of bizarre events. The aforementioned legal team held a press conference announcing that they were cutting ties with the former neighborhood watch volunteer, and questioned his mental capacity. Zimmerman later turned himself in to police on second degree murder charges, but was released after posting $150,000 bond.
Coincidentally, the announcement of the closing of the website comes one day prior to the two-month anniversary of Martin’s death.
