Erykah Badu has a bone to pick with The Flaming Lips. The songstress appeared on the groups “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” but after the explicit video hit the ‘Net this week, Badu was understandably upset over the whole thing.
In the video she, and her sister Nayrok, can be seen completely nude, soaking in a bathtub, and dripping in a liquid substance. Jay Electronica’s baby’s mother lashed out at Lips lead singer Wayne Coyne for releasing an unauthorized version of the song’s visual interpretation. After Coyne apologized for offending her, Badu responded with a lengthy twitter rant. “Then… perhaps, next time u get an occasion to work with an artist who respects your mind/art, you should send at least a ROUGh version of the video u PLAN to release b4 u manipulate or compromise the artist’s brand by desperately releasing a poor excuse for shock and nudity that sends a convoluted message that passes as art( to some),” she wrote. She also accused Coyne of switching up the “beautiful tasteful imagery,” which she originally approved. “I trusted that. I was mistaken. Then u release an unedited, unapproved version within the next few days. That all spells 1 thing , Self Serving .”
The mother of three has no problem showing her body—so long as there is an artistic purpose. Two years ago she pleaded not guilty to disorderly conduct charges after she stripped nude at Dealy Plaza in Dallas, for her “Window Seat Video.”
