Dave “The Dopefiend” Carter On The Killing Of 17-Year-Old Ty Jackson

Being a Black cop in The Bronx in the 80’s during the Crack Era couldn’t have been easy. But there was at least one that managed to make his mark on those gritty BX streets.

“I had more cops at my 5th birthday party than the Puerto Rican Day Parade,” says Carter, known to most in his old neighborhood as Dave “The Dopefiend,” the local junkie. “Most people looking at me would have never guessed that.”

Check out the great adventure (you’ll get it, later) that happened when Dave The Dopefiend and a young kid named Ty Jackson crossed paths over at The Urban Daily. Also worth noting, the illustrations are by André LeRoy Davis, the illustrator of the OG “Last Word” column in The Source that recently reintroduced the series.
