A 25-year-old Houston man was arrested yesterday (July 4) after being questioned that morning by authorities investigating a June 20 shooting outside a local nightclub that left three dead, while rapper Trae The Truth and another man sustained minor injuries. Houston police allege Feanyichi Uvukansi opened fired into a crowd gathered outside the Diamond’s Gentleman’s Club; killing 23-year-old Coy “Poppa C” Thompson, an associate of Trae  The Truth. According to the investigation, Thompson may have been Uvukansi’s intended target. Also killed in the shooting was 30-year-old Erica Rochelle Dotson and 31-year-old Carlos Durrell Dorsey.

The fatal incident took place shortly after a performance at the club by Trae The Truth around 3:15 a.m. Trae, 31, whose birth name is Frazier Othel Thompson, and an associate, Willie Watkins, 37, were shot as well but their injuries were not life-threatening. Dotson, a mother of three, had just approached Trae for an autograph as the throng of people were leaving the club, placing her in the direct line of gunfire.

According to reports, Uvukansi told family and friends that he was shocked to be considered responsible for the shooting and murders. Police also say Poppa C was involved in a domestic dispute on June 17 and had his life threatened. Uvukansi is facing capital murder charges and is being held without bond.
