Sherman Hemsley, who was most famous for playing George Jefferson on the The Jeffersons, has passed away at the age of 74. Hemsley died in his home in El Paso, TX, according to TMZ

Hemsley, who garnered his fame during his appearances on All In the Family,  became a household name courtesy of the show’s spin-off, The Jeffersons.  Hemsley also starred in the TV show, Amen and has a foray as a  professional singer on his resume, releasing a single in 1989 called “Ain’t that A Kick in the Head.”

Hemsley iconic role as George Jefferson made a huge mark on Black television. He would reprise his role many times on sitcoms including The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, Tyler Perry’s House Of Payne, Family Guy, All That, and many more.

There are no details as to how he passed away as of yet. Hemsley had no children and was not married.
