Lloyd Morgan, the 4-year-old boy who was killed during a charity basketball game in the Bronx has been laid to rest. The child’s funeral was held at the Mt. Neboh Baptist Church in Harlem Wednesday (Aug. 2) night.

Rev. Al Sharpton delivered Morgan’s eulogy, and spoke to the gun violence that has tragically taken the lives of too many children. “I’m angry at myself and all of us, ’cause it shouldn’t have gotten to this,” he said. “This is not about the blame game no more. This is about all of those who will stand up and take responsibility for our part in making sure our babies grow up.”

Morgan’s mother, Shianne Norman, was emotionally candid about the death of her son. “This is, I hope, the worst I ever feel in my life,” she said, before reading a poem about the incident. “Please don’t tell me my son is in a better place. Though it’s true, I wanted him to be with me. Don’t tell me to be thankful for the time I had, because I want more.”

Last month, shots rang out at the “First Annual Ghetto Angels Basketball Tournament” which was held in honor of a 15-year-old girl who was stabbed to death last year. Morgan was at the playground nearby when he was hit by a stray bullet. He was transported to nearby Lincoln Hospital, and later died.

In total, three people were injured during the shooting, with Morgan becoming the only fatality.

Police arrested 17-year-old Rondell Pinkerton for shooting the gun that killed Morgan. He has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
