The prosecutor’s office building a case against accused killer George Zimmerman, mistakenly released a bunch of new evidence Thursday (Aug. 9). Among the 76 documents included a blurry black and white photo of Trayvon Martin’s dead body, and Zimmerman’s college transcripts.

Special prosecutor Angela Corey’s office sent out a statement to the press, asking them to “disregard” and “do not use the information contained in the initial e-mail.” The office also stated that the evidence was “inadvertently attached.”

Later in the day, Corey’s office corrected the blunder by sending the press the proper document, null of both Martin’s photo and Zimmerman’s school records.

Although several pieces of evidence has been made available to the public, Judge Kenneth Lester ruled that photos of the 17-year-old’s corpse would not be released.

Zimmerman is facing second-degree murder charges for fatally shooting Martin in February. A former neighborhood watch captain, the 28-year-old has said that he shot the teen in self-defense. His lawyer, Mike O’Mara, is seeking to have the case dismissed, pending the outcome of a “stand your ground” hearing, which may bar him from legal ramifications from shooting the high school student.

The hearing is not expected to take place for months, and depending on the outcome, will also protect Zimmerman from facing a potential civil lawsuit, which could be filed by the Martin family.
