Teaming rappers with sneakers is nothing new in the world of advertising, and the latest artist to have their music tied to a brand is Yelawolf.

Champs Sports used the Alabama rapper’s “Good to Go” track off his Trunk Muzik mixtape, for their latest commercial.

Although he doesn’t make an appearance, based on the lyrics alone, the record was tailor-made for the sneaker retailer: “Fresh kicks (all day)/New Fits(alright)/ Drop hits (all day)/Then party (all night).”

Earlier in the summer Yelawolf  called out his label, Interscope Records, for failing to work his Radioactive debut. “It was deliberately given to Interscope, and it was on a f-ckin’ silver platter, given to them to work. Radio records after radio records purposely was my attempt and these mother-ckers have given me one single in 11 months, so its like I don’t really understand where the importance is lying,” he said.

These days he’s releasing music the way he wants to do it, rather than trying to appease the mainstream, and dropped his latest mixtape ,Heart of Dixie, last month.

Rather he’s against being commercial or not, the check from Champs Sports was probably pretty nice. Peep the ad below.
