President Obama has called The Wireone of the best shows of all time” and the cast of the show has paid it forward. While hosting an Obama fundraiser in Martha’s Vineyard this week, cast members of the defunct HBO series, vocalized their support for the commander in chief, and his quest for re-election.

Show creator David Simon, and five more members of the cast all gathered for the event, in the backyard of longtime Obama supporters Ron and Judy Davenport Wednesday (Aug. 15). Roughly 200 guests paid between $500 and $2500 each to join the likes of Democratic Congressman Sandy Levin, Obama senior adviser Valarie Jarrett, and Harvard Law professor, Alan Dershowitz.

After delivering a short speech each Wire cast member posed for photos and conversed with guests, to encourage voter attendance come November. Guest Sonja “Kima” Sohn spoke on how Republicans expect that low-income citizens living in the projects won’t vote. “They’re devising ways to keep them home,” she said.

The topic of Mitt Romney’s taxes was also up for discussion. “Am I supposed to congratulate this man?” asked Simon. “Thank him for his good citizenship? Compliment him for being clever enough to arm himself with enough tax lawyers so that he could legally minimize his obligations?” Romney has been the focus of suspicion for only paying 13 percent in taxes on a multi-million dollar income. “Thirteen percent. The last time I paid taxes at that rate, I believe I might still have been in college,” Simon added.

Not in attendance was Michael K. Williams, who played Omar on the show, and is the president’s favorite character.
