Louis Farrakhan Tells Harlem Crowd “You Can’t Keep Blaming The White Man”

The controversial Louis Farrakhan, head of the Nation Of Islam, toured New York City yesterday (September 25th), making various stops in the Bronx, Harlem, Queens and Brooklyn, as well as Newark, NJ. Farrakhan visited housing projects and spoke to onlookers about stemming gun violence in inner-city communities, much like he’s done in his Chicago homebase, which has been plagued by shootings.

The theme of the Minister’s Harlem speech was self-sufficiency and self-empowerment in putting a stop to the violence. “You are looking for change to come but change will not come out of the sky,” Farrakhan told a crowd of 300, reports DNAInfo, in front of the Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office building on 125th St.

“We are holding ourselves back. You can’t keep blaming the white man,” Farrakhan also reportedly said.

During Farrakhan’s tour of Harlem, he was accompanied by community leaders, activists and clergy including,  Iesha Sekou of Street Corner Resources, Rev. Vernon Williams of the Harlem Clergy Community Leaders Coalition and Perfect Peace Ministries and Rev. Al Taylor of Man Up in Harlem.

It was a homecoming of sorts for Farrakhan, who was once head of Mosque No. 7 in Harlem, succeeding the late Malcolm X.

Bill Cosby said it a few years back. He said it a little differently, but the message is basically the same. Difference is African Americans gave Bill flack about it and said he was out of touch.
