Last night in New York City, Lupe Fiasco performed at his first annual “Outstanding Fan Awards” sponsored by the Samsung Galaxy S3. Before performing for some of his biggest fans, he gave them awards ranging from “Best Food” to “Outstanding Cover” which included a platinum plaque and a gift bag from Samsung. After handing out the awards, Lupe chatted with Hip-Hop Wired.

After Fiasco tweeted his appreciation for Loaded Lux and showed his love for artists like Lil’ B, I asked him what other guilty pleasures he might have that people wouldn’t be so aware about.  “People have this certain perception of Lupe, and people like to run with that. But they forget I’m a hood n*gga from the West Side of Chicago that just so happens to like Skateboarding and these other things,” says the rapper. “I grew up on N.W.A., I grew up on Spice One. What’s the difference between Spice One and Future? I like Future, too. I don’t really have any guilty pleasures because I don’t feel guilty about it. I just have things that I like.”

Lupe, whose album Food And Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Part 1 is in stores now, features a song on the album called “Form, Follows Function,” a song that he calls his “masterpiece.”

“Form, Follows, Function” is like different periods. It’s not hierarchical like that, top down. It’s more horizontal. It’s in the same caliber as ‘Failure,'” Lupe said when asked to rank the song with his past lyrical gems.

‘The Cool,’ is more in the caliber of storytelling. I think my best works are on Friend Of The People. I think my best expressionist work is right there. On songs like “WWJD he’d probably LOL Like WTF,’ ‘ we got ‘Life And Death and Love From San Francisco.’ Songs like ‘Double Burger With Cheese,’ those are the songs I get excited about. It’s crazy cause I was in New Orleans and one of my homies down there, straight gangsta, walked up to me, strapped, the whole thing. He walked up to me and said ‘Lupe, my favorite joint, Double Burger with Cheese.” There you have it, the 9th Ward has spoken.”
