Big name rappers can’t seem to get along, even at events created to celebrate their accomplishments. Details are still sketchy but Rick Ross and Young Jeezy allegedly exchanged words and scuffled backstage at the BET Hip Hop Awards, which were being taped tonight (September 29th) at the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center.

Apparently the two rappers, who have hurled veiled and not so veiled shots at each other in rhyme—and who also happen to be Def Jam labelmates—heatedly exchanged words, which soon became shoving and pushing before both of their personal and BET’s security teams stepped into separate them. After the altercation, which occurred while the award show was taping, someone from Ross’ entourage allegedly fired gunshots while in the Civic Center’s parking lot.

Source also say that 50 Cent and Rick Ross’ camps, specifically Gunplay, got into a physical altercation. Source also said that Gunplay, who was rolling with Ross when he walked the red carpet, had been arrested but MTV News reports that the 106 & Snort rapper was only detained.

This unfortunately puts a black eye on what was a great event put together by BET.Besides the highly anticipated Cypher freestyles,  night’s performers included Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, Maybach Music Group and Juicy J, as well as a special tribute to Chris Lighty that included performances from A Tribe Called Quest and 50 Cent. The BET Hip Hop Awards will air October 9th at 8PM EST.

We’ll provide more details as this story develops.

UPDATE: DJ Drama drops an eyewitness account and says “Things went bad backstage” and that both parties walked away unscathed. Watch below.
