Awkward Black Girl Creator Issa Rae Gets ABC Show

Screenwriter, director and producer Shonda Rhimes has been busy behind the scenes prepping new shows along with overseeing her current hit television programs; Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice and the Kerry Washington-led Scandal. With all the success of her past shows, Rhimes and her Shondaland production company will be releasing its first half-hour comedy featuring writer/actor Issa Rae, the creator of Internet sensation The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl, reports Deadline.

Issa Rae will be the protagonist in the ABC sitcom I Hate L.A. Dudes, which will focus on Rae as budding journalist who joins an all-male Internet talk show and her dating woes while trying to make a career in Los Angeles.  The successful Awkward Black Girl show, which debuted in early 2011, took the Internets by storm as a smartly written and quirky show that displayed Rae’s formidable writing talents; she will also serve as a writer for her new ABC program as well.

Rhimes will also be rolling out The Mix, which focuses on the lives of five women who co-host a popular morning program (think The View and other similar programs). Actor/screenwriter John Hoffman will helm the writing duties for the show. No time table has been set for the release of the programs, but this proves Rhimes will be a fixture on network TV for a good while.

Congratulations to Issa Rae!
