In a preview for his latest interview for Current TV’s , The Gavin Newsom Show, host Gavin Newsom caught up with Black Eyed Peas front man Will.i.am at the Clinton Global Initiative to discuss his thoughts on the current state of the US education system.

In the video Will.i.am discusses the observations he has made on his travels across the world as a musician, and global modernization, as it relates to the stagnant progression of American neighborhoods.

“In 2005 Brazil was a totally different country,” he recalled.  “I remember going to this place in Rio de Janeiro called Mongeral. I remember going a couple of months ago in October of last year, it transformed. I remember going to India, Bangalore, and now that’s the Silicone Valley of india.”

Education has been a hot button issue in this years presidential debates, and with the presidential election only a month away, many celebrities, like Will.i.am, have been more open than usual about their feelings and concerns for the United States. “I see how the developing world is developing fast, but my concern is home because the neighborhood I come from isn’t developing,” he continued. “As we develop and get quicker with technology, in America its like we’re downgrading.”

Will.i.am’s full interview with Gavin Newsom will air Friday (Oct.19), at 11 p.m., on Current TV.
