Most people had their fix of high school when they were teenagers, but not James Nash. The 21-year-old from Lansing, Mich. forged documents so that he could play on a high school football team.

Nash posed as a nonexistent person named Javier Jones, all to tackle teenagers and potentially reclaim some form of adolescent sports adoration. After enrolling at Mount Pleasant High School at the top of the 2012-13 school year, and playing on the football team, Nash was busted when a parent ratted him out.

In accordance with the school’s rules, no student who turned 19 before Sept. 1 of this year is allowed to compete in any high school level sports.

Undeterred by the pesky rule, Nash contributed to of four wins for the team, and had a “yes sir/no sir” attitude according to his coaches. “He represented himself as an average high school student athlete. He didn’t draw attention to himself, kept up with his academic worked, and in doing that spilled under everyone’s radar,” said Mount Pleasant High School Athletic Department Director, Jim Conway.

Born in 1991, Nash changed his information to state that he was born in 1994 to transfer to the high school. “He did a really good job of forging his documents, such as transcripts and a current address,” Conway added. “Any ordinary person like you or me wouldn’t have been able to tell that they were in fact forged documents.”

School officials reported their findings to the Michigan High School Athletic Association, while police who were able to unearth Nash’s real identity. The football team may have to forfeit all of the games in which Nash competed, a move which will bring their 4-5 record down.

In mapping out his sports dream Nash didn’t stop at football, he also planned on joining the basketball team as well.
