Violence Reigns On “Trae Day”

NEWS

A day that was rooted in peace found an early conclusion due to senseless violence yesterday. “Trae Day,” a local Houston celebration meant to pay homage to local rap superstar Trae The Truth, ended after a barrage of gunfire left several wounded.

Taking place on the campus of Texas Southern University, the event was created by the City of Houston to keep the work and dreams of a man whom devoted much of himself to helping the community that created him. The gunfire spanned a range of one-block, with victims hit at three different locations. Others were hurt due to the resulting stampede.

Rappers Rick Ross and Bun B were scheduled to headline a concert in the Houston rapper's honor, which was subsequently cancelled due to the drive-by shooting. United States Congress Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, was also expected to attend the event that was to last all day.

It is uncertain as to whether any of the victims shot were students of Texas Southern.
