NAACP Responds To Police Brutality

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

With the sharp rise of police brutality and misconduct that has been occurring, the NAACP has found a way to utilize technology to report such instances and take necessary steps forward in ceasing this ongoing epidemic.

A survey in January composed of U.S. emergency physicians showed that 97.8 % believed that excessive force by police officers was used on patients that were brought in beaten.

A program called the “rapid response system” was launched Monday where people are able to use their cell phones to report incidents that involve misbehavior from police. This new system is part of their annual convention as the organization will be celebrating the centennial of its founding in New York in 1909.

With police brutality seeming to escalate in 2009, people who have been able to capture photos and make recordings of such cases, or any other misconduct, will be able to use their cell phones to send the footage through a Web browser or upload it to the organization through a computer. Once received, a form is sent back where a person will be able to provide further detail on the incident that they had witnessed.

Outside of simply reporting the negative actions performed by police, this new system can be employed to create a database and compile an extensive list of this rising problem with law enforcement and present it to the Justice Department. Presenting a history of abuse from law enforcement might send a stronger message that something must be done. The footage can also be used by the department as a means to highlight the problem and promote further discussion.

Since Barack Obama was elected the 44th president, police brutality has seen a sharp incline, especially affecting the African American community.

In May 2008 three Black men were wrongfully accused and beaten by more than 10 police officers during an arrest. Although they were acquitted of the charges recently, the methods used were clearly excessive and unnecessary.

The events that took place with the murder of Sean Bell by police, made it clear that the law has a power that it clearly abuses. It doesn't seem as though they are here to simply serve and protect the people anymore and instead are intimidating and bullies with a badge and gun.

The most troubling issue with police brutality is the fact that it is nothing new and has come to be expected to happen although no actions have been made to put a stop to it. Hopefully the NAACAP has a solution with this new system, but if officers are acquitted from killing a man with no evidence of a weapon, there will be a long road ahead to traverse.

Possible Black Serial Killer Making Mark in North Carolina

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

A case was recently closed of a serial killer that left a county in South Carolina in fear, but now another case has opened its doors.

Police are now investigating a North Carolina country road in an attempt to figure out if the area has become a dumping ground for the victims of a killer.

Spanning back to May 2005, an area near Seven Bridges Road outside Rocky Mount, North Carolina has turned into a burial as five women have been found there dead. According to Rocky Mount Police Chief John Manley Jr., there could be a correlation between the bodies that were found.

A woman, Lanessa Williams, stated that she believed she could have been the next potential victim as she recounted hitching a ride with a stranger last year. Although she could not be sure if he was the killer, she described an African-American male with a mustache and glasses who eventually demanded sex and threatened to take her life. Fortunately, she was able to escape his clutches. She reported that the man's car was a black pickup truck with “Chevrolet” written on the back in white letters.

Melody Wiggins, 29, Jackie Nikelia Thorpe, 35, Ernestine Battle, 50, Taraha Shenice Nicholson, 28, and Jarneice Latonya Hargrove, 31, are the names of the women whose bodies were found, according to the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office. All of the women are Black. Hargrove was the last to have her remains found which was on June 29 being identified by her dental records. The cause of the deaths for all of the victims has yet to be determined.

Criminal records have shown the all of the women found dead had history of drug or alcohol abuse.

Hargrove's family has pleaded that the public comes forward with any information that pertains to her death or the other four.

The discovery of Hargrove has resulted in a task force being formed which is comprised of the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Rocky Mount Police Department. As things continue to develop, Sheriff James Knight has advised that the residents are cautious and use common-sense to ensure their own safety.

Michael Steele Plans To Lure More Blacks To Republican Party By Offering “Fried Chicken and Potato Salad”

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Adding to an ever growing reputation of “Uncle Tom-ness,” Michael Steele managed to inject more racism into an event that was already heavily influenced by its presence. Appearing at the Young Republican convention, the same event that saw the less than subtle racist Audra Shay be elected to the groups' presidency, the chairman of the Republican National Committee revealed his rock solid plan of bringing people that have long been persecuted and ridiculed, minorities, into the Republican Party.

“My plan is to say y'all come, cause a lot of you are already here. I got the fried chicken and potato salad!,” adding a level of coonery that only the most ignorant and idiotic of Black people can summon.

After his world famous jigaboo impression, the top Republican conversed inarticulately, spouting incorrect facts in between gibberish, with but one truth in all that was said. Though hard to believe in its current form, he mentioned that the Republican party was founded by abolitionists and was once the party of freedom and racial tolerance, and served as the party of choice for Black people until the 1930's.

It should be noted that not all of Steele's recent moves have been bad. In a moment of greater intellectual clarity, the leader of the Republican Party revealed that he sincerely desired to start a dialogue with the NAACP, having already felt that the two organizations have missed opportunities in the past to converse with one another.

Addressing a sizeable, spirited crowd in New York City at the NAACP's annual convention, the first Black head of the Republican National Committee expressed his commitment to forging a relationship with the famous civil-rights based organization. The NAACP, which will be having a centennial celebration later this week, also invited President Obama to speak at their convention. He is scheduled to appear on Thursday.

50 Cent Challenges Jay-Z

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

In 2007 there was a clash of the titans when Kanye West and 50 Cent released their albums Graduation and Curtis at the same time.

West would win the battle of first week sales with 957,000 crushing 50 Cent's numbers of 691,000 copies.

Coincidentally 50 Cent will involve himself in another battle on the exact same day two years later as a member of the G-Unit camp has reported that Before I Self Destruct will go up against Jay-Z's Blueprint III on September 11.

The two New York natives recently had a battle on the (more...)
