NFL's Donte Stallworth Released After 30 Day Sentence For Manslaughter

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Donte Stallworth was released from jail early Friday morning. The Cleveland Browns player served 24 of his 30 day jail sentence for manslaughter at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. He plead guilty to D.U.I. manslaughter after striking and killing a pedestrian on March 14 after a long night of partying. At the time of his arrest he had a blood alcohol level of .126. In Florida the limit is .08. He also tested positive for marijuana at the time.

As part of a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years house arrest and eight years of probation. His driver's license was also suspended for life, he must perform 1,000 hours of community service, and he settled with the victim's family for an undisclosed amount of money.

According to his attorney Christopher Lyons, Stallworth will serve the final six days of his prison sentence at home and plans to:

“Fulfill his obligations under the plea agreement and spend time with his family."

30 days in jail for killing a person and Vick gets 23 months for killing dogs. Does this not make any sense to anyone else either? I'm just sayin….

Stalking Charges Against Marion Barry Dropped

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Stalking charges against Marion Barry have been dropped by the U.S. Attorney's Office after further review of the evidence. The former D.C. Mayor and current Washington councilman had been charged with misdemeanor stalking of his ex-girlfriend Donna Watts-Brighthaupt on Saturday by U.S. Park police.

Barry stated that the incident “caused great pain” to him, his family and community and that he did nothing to deserve to be arrested. He also claimed that he was stopped by police after driving his usual route home and was taken into custody in handcuffs and waited for hours before being read his rights.

In his time as mayor, Barry served four terms. In 1990, during his third term, he was videotaped in a hotel room smoking crack in an FBI sting. This resulted in him being placed in prison for six months. He would later become mayor again in 1994.

The entertainment company also claims they gave Wayne $210,000 up front. They're suing for $432,000 which includes the cost of (more...)

Iowa Congressman Votes Against Plaque Honoring Slaves

Friday, July 10th, 2009

GOP Representative of Iowa, Steve King, was the only congressman to vote "no" against a plaque, to be placed in the Capitol, recognizing the history of slave labor. His vote of opposition stood alone against a cause that was, otherwise, overwhelmingly easily approved.

The House of Representatives voted 399-1 for the Capitol Visitor's Center to house a plaque acknowledging the slave labor that went into the actual construction of the Capitol building. The resolution itself has information that has been quietly kept for many years. For example, slaves built the "Statue of Freedom" that sits on top (more...)
