T.O. Stands Up For Mike Vick

Monday, July 27th, 2009

As Michael Vick continues to be hounded for his actions that landed him behind prison, he can find an unlikely friend in Terrell Owens who has defended the former Falcons quarterback since being released from prison.

The former Cowboy, Eagle and even 49er is usually known for going against his teammates which is evident from the three teams just listed that he was not able to leave from on good terms.

Owens has stated that Vick deserves to have a second chance and wants him to be reinstated. He added that it would only serve as throwing dirt in a wound by making him remain on suspension. After a camp practice Sunday with the Bills, Owens cited NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's treatment of Vick as being unfair to the player. Owens has even taken it a step further by trying to reach out to other high-profile NFL players to show support for Vick and speak on the particular situation.

Almost 12 hours after being released from jail, there were rumors that Vick would be making his return to the gridiron playing for the Buffalo Bills who Owens recently had been traded to after being released from the Dallas Cowboys.

Teams such as the New York Giants and the Jets have stated that they have no interest in having Vick play for their team.

George Wilson, the Bills safety and the team's NFL Players Association representative has agreed with his teammate who feels as though he has already paid his dues and is only being held down by being on suspension still. Wilson stated that he will be in discussion with other members of the Buffalo Bills to determine whether to bring their possible teammate to the union.

As of now, the career of Vick in the NFL is still under question even after meeting with Goodell recently. Vick has had another sentence added with a four-game suspension. He had been on suspension from the league since August 2007 when he admitted that was making profits from a dog-fighting operation. The crime forced him to serve a 23-month federal sentence, and he was freed from home confinement on July 20. There is still the whole three years' probation that he will also have to deal with.

Hopefully Vick can come back from this heavy scrutiny. He served his time and is an actual asset to the NFL and shouldn't have to suffer anymore than the two years from jail.

Girl Possibly Killed Over VIBE Magazine

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Senseless violence is the culprit as another young woman finds the sum of her life and all its dealings being summed up into one word: statistic. Jessica Darnell George, a 19-year old North Carolinian, found her life cut short last Friday in dramatic and tragic fashion over an item of triviality. A recent transplant from Houston, her murder is still shrouded in mystery, with local authorities believing that the culmination reached may have been the product of longstanding issues between the victim and her neighbors.

George, who was a lesbian, is said to have intervened in an altercation between her girlfriend another woman; the result of which lead to her being stabbed in the neck, a blow that proved to be fatal. Witness testimonies surrounding the murder have been difficult to corroborate, mainly due to there being different accounts of the event floating around with some saying the teen was stabbed while retrieving CD's and others saying that she was assaulted over an issue involving an issue of Vibe's recently defunct magazine.

Investigators believe that George and her assailant were not the only people at the scene, but rather, two other women also took part in the altercation that transpired. George's father Wendal believes a more simple motive can be applied to the murder of his daughter. "I think my daughter was having problems over here because she was gay. She told me two weeks ago that everyone except her immediate neighbor was acting funny to her."

The Center for Disease Control cites homicide as one of the eighth most likely methods of death for Black people in the United States. Black males lead all other ethnic groups, attributing nearly 60% of their fatalities to homicide, with firearms proving to be the predominant method utilized.

Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor Of Alaska

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Sarah Palin officially resigned as Governor of Alaska. The 45 year old stepped down Sunday at a press conference, handing her duties to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell. She told the crowd that she would exercise her freedom of speech and did so, wasting no time criticizing the media for “making things up.”

“Democracy depends on you, and that is why…that's why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about, in honor of the American soldier, ya quit making things up?”

She continued and promised to protect the people of Alaska despite her decision to step down. In typical Palin fashion she compared herself to an animal, this time a grizzly bear.

“When I took the oath to serve you, I promised, remember what I promised? To steadfastly and doggedly guard the interests of this great state like that grizzly guards her cubs, as a mother naturally guards her own. And I will keep that vow wherever the road may lead.”

Lieutenant Governor Parnell was sworn into office immediately following her speech. He is the second non-elected governor in Alaska's history.

Sarah Palin is most known for being John McCain's running mate in the 2008 Presidential election, and a temporary thorn in President Obama's side. During the election Palin was constantly parodied and criticized for being less than knowledgeable on certain issues. In an interview with CBS News Correspondent Katie Couric, when asked to specifically name the newspapers and magazines she read, she stumbled for answer eventually saying:

“Ummm…all of ‘em. Any of em' that have been in front of me all these years…”

In another incident, she raised political eyebrows and earned more than a few snickers during a 2008 Republican National Convention when she compared herself, a hockey mom to a pit-bull.

“You know they say the difference between a hockey mom and pit-bull? Lipstick.”

The “pit-bull” in a skirt recently made headlines for having over 20 ethics complaints filed against her by Alaska residents. She cited financial difficulties from the complaints as reason for her resignation.
According to Palin, the complaints have cost her more than $500,000 in legal debt. She will not have to worry about finances for long however, the former governor has a $7 million dollar book deal in the works with Harper Collins publishing for a tell-all read.
