Drake's Contract With Universal Has a Few Glitches

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

This must be the first time in history that one artist has continued to cause a stir in America in relation to music and he has yet to even drop an album. Drake is going through all the problems of an veteran and dude doesn't even have a debut out.

Everything seems to be misconstrued with the Canadian rapper in relation to his label. Billboard predicted that Drake had his sights locked on signing with Universal Motown as he inked a deal with Aspire which was a company under the helm of his manager, Cortez Bryant. Distribution was set to be through Universal Republic and Young Money/Cash Money.

How dare someone think that something that seemed so simple would actually be the case as representatives of Motown have now made requests that all of his Billboard chart entries are given to Motown, in terms of credit, as opposed to Universal Republic.

"I went through Universal Republic because I don't f*ck with Motown, at all," Drake says in the latest issue of (more...)

NHL's Carolina Hurricanes Sue MC Over Theme Song

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Tyrone Banks could not have thought he would end up being sued by one of the nation's most beloved hockey franchises when he set foot in a studio booth well over a year ago, but that is exactly what has happened. The Raleigh man has been named in a federal, class-action lawsuit for, in essence, being a fan of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes franchise.

The lawsuit accuses the North Carolinian of violating team trademarks, citing a song that he made for the team as their evidence, which can understandably be perceived mindboggling to the rapper considering the facts surrounding the song. Banks created the track as a fan, and wanted to use his work to promote the (more...)

Third Man Arrested For Boxer Vernon Forrest's Murder

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Police arrested a third man Wednesday involved in the July 25 robbery and murder of boxing champion, Vernon Forrest. Charman Sinkfield was driving on Interstate 20 in Atlanta before being stopped by U.S. Marshalls. Sinkfield, who was trying to conceal his identity in a dreadlock wig, has been charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Sinkfield has already served three state prison terms, the most recent for cocaine possession. He is believed to be the man that shot Forrest and the final suspect in the murder.

The two other men arrested were Demario Ware and Jquante Crews. Demario Ware turned himself into police, Tuesday August 4 after being caught on a surveillance camera confronting and robbing Forrest. He is charged with murder, aggravated assault, robbery and two gun charges. Jqante Crews is believed to be the get-away driver after the robbery.

Vernon Forrest was fatally shot eight times after chasing and shooting at a man that robbed him outside an Atlanta gas station. He exchanged words with another man after failing to catch the robber and was shot eight times as he turned away to leave. Vernon Forrest was part of the 1992 U.S. Olympic boxing team and a former WBC super welterweight champion.

Donte Stallworth Will Not Be Paid For 2009 Season

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Donte Stallworth, who recently served 30 days for DUI Manslaughter, was suspended indefinitely from the NFL and now will not be receiving pay for the 2009 season. The call was made as the league stated that the player violated the NFL's personal conduct policy and its substance abuse policy.

His case stems back to March 14 when he hit and killed a man, Mario Reyes, with his car as he was driving under the influence in Miami. In terms of his return to the field, the league has stated that he should be reinstated in February 2010 after the Super Bowl.

Stallworth should be content with the suspension as the manslaughter case has caught some convicts with 10 years. His punishment may not be over, however, as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell believes that the man should have more consequences for his actions along with what was given to him from the court system. In regards to Goodell's statement, Stallworth is willing to deal with whatever other actions the Commissioner decides to take as he recognizes the damage his action had done for his career as well as the image of the NFL.

The actual case of Stallworth is simple: After drinking at a bar in Miami Beach he decided to get behind the wheel. Although he stated to authorities that he flashed his lights to warn Reyes, it must have been unsuccessful as the man was killed after being hit. Ever heard of a horn or the thing called brakes that stop the car?

To make matters worse a blood-alcohol level of .126 was taken from Stallworth as .08 is the limit in Florida. He only served 24 of the 30 days and reached a financial agreement with the family of Reyes. His sentence also finds the man under two years of house arrest, eight years of probation and other restrictions.

Vick gets 2 years for his incident with dogs and Stallworth gets 24 days for drunken murder. Yeah Stallworth it might be necessary to just hold it down on the sidelines and be thankful.

Head of Chicago Urban League To Run For Senate

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

Cheryle Jackson, president of the Chicago Urban League, announced her plans to run for U.S. Senate in the Democratic primary election. She made the official announcement Monday through an email. In the email Jackson denounced her only opponent at the time, Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, saying:

“I'm not a politician. That's what my opponent is, a politician. I'm not that. I'm a problem solver.”

Jackson, who is also a former aid for the controversial Governor Rod Blagojevich, believes she should be given credit for reviving the Urban League from a focus on Civil Rights to economic expansion and job development.

"We've been focused on creating jobs, connecting people to jobs and helping to educate and train and prepare people for jobs. That's all that I've been doing, immersed in this work, hands-on experience and in the trenches.”

Jackson will hold a formal ceremony next month to commemorate her entrance into the Senate race.
