Underreported News: 80-Year-Old Woman Body Slammed at Wal-Mart

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Police officers in Columbus, Ohio were caught on tape slamming an 80-year-old woman to the ground.

Due to the shaky and inaudible footage, details and rationale behind her mishandling remain unknown.

The video, which was time stamped on August 1, shows an elderly woman standing in a Wal-Mart parking lot when a police officer arrived and pummeled her to the ground within seconds. Onlookers rushed to her aid as the woman bled from her head on the pavement.

Moments later, another officer rushed to the scene to create space between his partner and the angry crowd of people concerned about the 80-year-old's safety.

To shed some light on the incident, however, the YouTube.com video blurb read: "This old lady was in the parking lot of Walmart in Whitehall, Ohio swinging a knife at people, when the police arrived she wouldn't drop the knife so the police officer took her down, the lady also assulted a kid by hitting him which sparked the crowd of people outside anyway, he was with relatives who intervened and that's when the knife swinging started anyone that tried to help her she began to swing her knife at them threatening them."

So far, no names have been released and very little is known about the case.

Pakistani Taliban Leader Likely Killed in U.S. Attack

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Baitullah Meshud, a Pakistani Taliban leader was likely killed in a U.S. drone attack a top Pakistani official said Friday.

"The information I have is that Mehsud has been killed, but we are doing ground verification for 100 percent confirmation," said Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pakistan's foreign minister.

According to CNN, information from the region that was attacked somewhat confirms Meshud's death, however, DNA tests will officially verify his death.

A Pakistani official who handles intelligence said that the strike in Pakistan's South Waziristan, a tribal area, was executed solely based upon "solid intel." After the attack,"the Mehsud network has gone quiet as if in shock," the official said.

Although Meshud is believed to have died, the official cautioned that "there is a high degree of confidence but certainty only comes after physical evidence and

DNA is processed." Given the fact Mehsud "has shown up alive after previous near misses," he added.

The U.S. maintains its silence in matters of drone attacks, which are missiles that are launched by remote. The U.S. military is the only country that operates missiles from drones.

The Pakistani Taliban and other high ranking members including Meshud have been the subject of investigation within Pakistani military operation. Hideouts linked to Mehsud are often air-raided by the Pakistani military.

Mehsud's close aide recently reveled that the Pakistani Taliban chief was the mastermind behind the assassination of former Pakistani Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto, who was shot to death at a political rally in December 2007. Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari, is the current president of Pakistan.

CIA officials and Pakistani officials have long suspected that Mehsud was responsible for Bhutto's death.

The Obama administration authorized 28 strikes in 2009, as the drone initiative has rapidly increased.

A Taliban member, Muhammad Jamal, said that woman and children were injured in the recent drone attack.

Obama Inspires African-Born Russian to Run for Office

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

An unlikely candidate is going to take a chance and run for office in Russia, all thanks to our inspirational president Barack Obama.

Joaquim Crima, a 37-year-old native of Guinea Bissau took residence in southern Russia after acquiring a degree at a local university. In his campaign, Crima pledges to take on internal corruption and initiate development in his district on the Volga River.

Russians are entirely taken back by the notion of a Black man running for office, so much so, they've began to call him "the Russian Obama," reports the Associate Press.

"I like Obama as a person and as a politician because he proved to the world what everyone thought was impossible. I think I can learn some things from him," Crima said.

In a country where racism and racial stereotypes are just as much a part of the culture as the language, Crima's pursuit of being appointed head of Srednyaya Aktuba district confronts one massive roadblock: he's a Black man.

"They are often taunted on the metro and in the market,'" said Lydia Troncale of the Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy, a nonprofit organization that works with African immigrants.

Much like Obama, Crima has to travel with security, his muscular brother-in-law, despite the fact he gets along with his townspeople.

In what is suspected to be a racially charged attack, a Black American exchange student was stabbed and seriously injured in Volgograd.

Crima relocated to Russia in 1989 and earned his degree from Volgograd State Pedagogical University. The area where he resides is severely underdeveloped and many residents don't have running water and have to use outhouses. Goats graze on unpaved roads that turn to mud after rainfall.

Approximately 55,000 people live in the district that is made of 18 villages and towns.

"The current district head has been in power for 10 years, but he hasn't done anything for people here," said Crima. "There are young families that need housing, who need opportunities. This town and Russia are ready for a change."

The performance is set for August 29th as part of Six Flag's Great Adventures' annual concert series.
