Racially Charged Memo Sparks Controversy in Atlanta Mayoral Race

Friday, August 28th, 2009

As Atlanta's mayoral race is nearing, a racially charged viral internet memo has sparked controversy.

In the letter, the anonymous sender is asking voters to throw their support behind the "best black candidate in the race" Lisa Borders, and highlights the notion that “for the first time in 25 years, African Americans could lose the Mayoral seat in Atlanta, Georgia, especially if there is a run-off.”

The memo also stated “time is of the essence … in order to defeat a Norwood mayoral candidacy.” Mary Norwood happens to be a white candidate and is said to be the leading in the race. “We have to get out now and work in a manner to defeat her without a runoff, and the key is a significant Black turnout in the general election,” the letter stated.

A state Senator who is also running for mayor, Kasim Reed, demanded a response from Borders. “Not only do I find these comments racially charged and vitriolic, I completely repudiate them because they are fundamentally wrong and do not belong in today's society. I call on Ms. Borders to do the right thing and denounce such divisive, racist language immediately,” Reed said.

Borders response: “My run for mayor is not about race. It is not about rhetoric. It is about results."

Neal Boortz Calls Katrina Victims “Debris”, Says Obama Should Not Rebuild New Orleans

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Another racist member of the media host is proudly showing their true colors. Hate radio show host, Neal Boortz, denounced the President's plans to rebuild the city of New Orleans. President Obama recently told the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper that he “remains focused on rebuilding New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.” Upon hearing this, the belligerent bigot took to his Twitter to do what he does best, sling Black people through the mud. Boortz posted a Tweet saying:

“Obama wants to rebuild New Orleans. Why? Build it and they will come. They? The debris that Katrina chased out.”

This is not the first time Boortz has lashed out downright disrespectful comments about Katrina victims. He previously shocked listeners to his national syndicated radio show that have any sense of clout and compassion by saying:

“Katrina cleansed New Orleans. It just washed out a lot of debris, including human debris.”

He also took it so far as to say that rescue workers in New Orleans needed to save the “rich people first.”

“They needed to save the rich people first. That's right, save the business owners first, the producers first, the achievers first, the people who have made something out of their lives. Save them first! Then use whatever resources are left to go in there and save the useless, the needless and the worthless.”

It doesn't stop there; Boortz has referred to Katrina victims as “human parasites”, “deadbeats” and suggested that they consider prostitution instead of “sucking off taxpayers.” He also was so bold to refer to Georgia congresswoman Cynthia McKinney as a “ghetto slut.”Just when you thought O'Reilly and Limbaugh were bad, this asshole shows up. I think we just found Hov's next victim. Someone handle him, please!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

What seemed to a an everyday bus route for several Georgia teens quickly turned bizarrely frightening when an naked, angry man highjacked a school bus.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon when a man jumped through an open window at a bus stop to let students off. According to CNN, the man drove the bus for less than mile when a student grappled with him and crashed the bus into a wall off the road.

The naked assailant, Arris Pitmon, 23, hijacked the bus as the driver ran to the back. According to police Pitmon abandoned the wheel and proceeded to the walk to the back of the bus.

The mother of the student who tried to take control of the bus, Chiquita Rogers said Pitmon tried to hit several students.

"He pushed my son, and that's when my son hit him. I guess everybody started swinging, and everybody just started out the back door, jumping. I'm just grateful that my son is still alive, because it could have been worse."

Cory Turner, an additional witness, said "Children were jumping out the emergency door ... jumping off the bus. ... They were saying, 'Help, help, help! ... Somebody hijacked the bus.'"

Lone Plane Crash Survivor Speaks About Tragic Event

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

The world was shocked in when a series of plane crashes left many crushed over the loss of their loved ones. But in a simple twist if fate,13-year-old Bahia Bakari, was the lone survivor of Yemenia Airlines flight 626 crash.

For the first time she spoke about that horrific day and recalled sitting next to her mother moments before the crash.

"I looked out the porthole and the plane started to shake. They didn't tell us there was going to be a crash," Bahia recalls.

Bakari and her mother took off in Paris and swapped planes in Yemeu, a 19-year-old Airbus 310, destined for the small African nations of Comoros. During the night hours of the flight, the plane went down over the Indian Ocean.

"I felt the water around me. I found myself in the ocean. I don't know how it happened, I didn't see my mother."

Unable to swim, Bakari clung from the plane debris in shark-infested waters.

"I heard women crying near me, others were alive in the water but I couldn't see them. I was too far away."

"The voices soon faded. Eight hours later small fishing boat spotted the little girl. Her only injuries were a few bruises and a broken collar bone."

The lone survivor was flown back to Paris an transported to an airport to be reunited with her father were they broke the horrific news.

"A psychologist came to see me and said, 'I don't think your mother is coming.' I was the only one alive. Then I understood."

Charles Rangel Reveals Previously Unreported Assets

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Chairman of the House and Ways Committee, Charles Rangel, has some serious explaining to do. This time the embattled congressman finds himself in more hot water after a corrected financial report shows that he conveniently forgot to report more than $500,000 in assets to the House of Representatives. His amended report magically reveals new assets worth between $647,000 and $1.38 million. The missing assets from the original report include a congressional Federal Credit Union IRA worth between $250,000 and $500,000 along with four mutual funds worth between $365,000 and $750,000. Also forgotten was his stock with Pepsi Co and Yum! Brands worth between $16,000 and $65,000.

His actions beg the question: How in the world do you forgot to report over $1 million in assets?!

Unfortunately for him, that is the very question the House Ethics Committee plans to have answered. Rangel is already well under investigation by the National “watch dogs” for renting four luxury apartments in Manhattan and failing to report income from an apartment he rents out in the Dominican Republic. To top it all off, he is being investigated for soliciting money for an education center in his honor on official stationery.

The amended report is only adding fuel to the fire of Republicans that want to see him removed from office. While Republicans are smiling and eagerly licking their chaps, a representative for Rangel is saying, “not so fast!” His team released a statement saying, “The congressman is confident there was no effort to hide anything.”

Sureeee there wasn't. Nevertheless it'll be interesting to see how this pans out, good luck to Rangel. I would never forget if I had $65,000 in stock with Pepsi. I mean I'm just saying…

South African Soldiers Protest; Turns Violent

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

About 1,000 South African soldiers tried to enter presidential grounds in South Africa's capital city,Johannesburg, an incident that quickly turned violent.

Up to 1,200 soldiers marched on the lawns of the Union Buildings, with hundreds scaling the gates of the compound, the news agency said. Police resorted to tear gas and rubber bullets when the soldiers refused to leave, and both sides sustained injuries.

The South African National Defence Union, which is not recognised by the government as an official union, was demanding 30 percent salary increases, which Minister of Defence Lindiwe Sisulu called "deliberately provocative".

Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, in a statement, "strongly condemned" the violence.
"The illegal march, which was supposedly to be peaceful, deteriorated into chaos as scores of SANDF [South African National Defence Force] members were seen causing havoc.

"While members of the SANDF had the right of freedom of assembly and to protest, there can be no justification for their behaviour, which negated their status as the defenders of the nation," said Mthethwa.

Police used water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse about 1 000 soldiers who staged an illegal march on the Union Buildings, the Defence Ministry said on Wednesday.

Soldiers tried to climb the fence surrounding the main government complex in Pretoria, after a court refused their application to stage a march to demand better salaries.

Mthethwa told reporters that two soldiers had been arrested and handed over to military police.
