Thursday, August 27th, 2009“One Tree Hill” Star Pleads Guilty TO Social Security Fraud
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Joining Bump J in the idiotic Black Man of the Month Club will be Antwon Tanner, the young, enigmatic actor that portrays “Skills,” a high school basketball star turned coach on the CW's “One Tree Hill.”
Tanner, 34, was caught selling fake identification cards and Social Security numbers to undercover immigration and Custom enforcement agents. For his part in the crime, the young actor has indiscreetly tried to throw his fellow partners involved in the ordeal under the proverbial bus, telling Federal Judge Carol Arnon that he was nothing more than a “middle man” in the scheme.
During the arraignment process the actor went through great lengths to explain that he was provided with numbers by someone else, who at this time, remains shrouded in mystery. Authorities report that Tanner, whom sold the identification numbers for $10,000 a piece, is also under investigation in California for incidents similar to those that the actor has plead guilty to in New York.
With a recent poll showing that fans of the Dawson Creek-esque show would rather Tanner's “Skills” character not be written off, producers of the CW hit have decided to keep his character going, at least for the time being. Sources close to the angst-filled drama have confirmed that the popular character will be in some of this season's first episodes, though whether the actor will appear in later episodes is still unknown.
Antwon Tanner has appeared in several big screen films, including Coach Carter alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Black culture classic, The Wood.
What was he thinking? I know the answer, he wasn't thinking. Just another rich moron living the savage life. That's cool, it gets really savage in prison, especially after lights out. Guess he wasn't scared straight after his appearance in The Wood.
Champion Runner, Castor Semenya's Testosterone Levels 3 Times Higher Than Normal
Wednesday, August 26th, 200918-year old Castor Semenya of South Africa's gender identity dispute is reaching a fever pitch. A test taken before her epic win in Berlin shows that the track star's testosterone levels were three times higher than normally expected in a woman. The elevated levels could point to performance enhancing drugs or as expected a gender identity issue. Officials for the International Association of Athletics Federations raised eyebrows at Semenya's sudden brash of good luck after she broke her own personal record in July and became the newly crowned African junior champion. The speculation was capped off when she dusted her competition in Berlin's IAAF World Champions by a startling 2.45 seconds to win the women's 800 meter finals.
Despite the doubts of officials, Semenya's family members and members of her South African community insist that she is indeed a woman. She received a heroine's welcome Tuesday when she returned to Johannesburg and support from various leaders. The ex-wife of President Nelson Mandela vehemently defended Semenya saying, “To the world out there who conducted those pseudo-tests, they can stuff their insult. This is our little girl and nobody is going to perform any tests on her.”
Oklahoma Pastor Killed In Church
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Oklahoma police found the body of a Pastor inside her church Sunday. 61-year old Carol Daniels was found dead inside Christ Holy Sanctified Church in Anadarko. An autopsy deemed her death a homicide and a result of “multiple sharp force injuries.”
The Associated Press reports that the presiding prosecutor, Bret Burns, dubbed the crime scene the most horrific he's seen in 20 years. Burns also warned other pastors in the area to take safety precautions in a closed door meeting. The police have no suspects and no leads.
Burns did not rule out the possibility that the killer specifically targeted a pastor or a church.
"There are a lot of things we're not prepared to rule out," he said. "I'm concerned about the nature of this crime. I'm concerned about the community."
No arrests have been made, and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Dr. King Honored on 46th Anniversary of March to Washington
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Just a few short months ago, millions gathered at the Washington mall to watch the first black President of the United States get inaugurated. In the same place six months later, politicians, business leaders and educators gathered to celebrate the 46th anniversary of the March on Washington.
The celebration took place on Tuesday, August 25, reports The Griot. All the celebratory events took place on the site of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial, which will unveil a statue of Dr. King rising form a black of stone.
According to the King Memorial Foundation, $106 of the estimated $120 million needed to build the memorial.
During the celebration secretary of education Arne Duncan announced the start of the "Kids 4 King" competition, which will encourage children to keep Dr. King's dream alive.
"The more our students, our young children understand what King stood for and the battles he fought and why he fought them and the huge source of inspiration he's been for so many in our generation, we need to make sure those lessons, those values, that sense of leadership get instilled in this next generation of students."
