Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Now that the trial is over and Corey “C-Murder” Miller has been convicted for murder, a juror now steps up to state that foul play happened in casting the votes and declaring that Miller was indeed guilty.

Boston Beatdown Leaves 1 Dead In Possibly Racially Motivated Crime

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

A night meant to celebrate the life of a fallen comrade concluded in chaos surely induced by alcohol motivated debauchery. Nine men, clad in matching tuxedos with red vests and red ties, have been indicated in a bar brawl that has left one man dead. The victim, Jose Alicea, was at the bar with friends. Official police reports cite that the perpetrators and three other people whom were involved were at the club to pay homage to the life of a friend of who was killed one week ago while riding his motorcycle.

Official police documents state that several witness accounts note that the issues did not start within the night spot, but rather, spilled outside the establishment after the victim and one of the 12 men in the funeral party had a conversation that became heated. Soon after, the verbal jabs transformed into physical ones, and a melee ensued. Alicea, 22, was promptly pounced upon by several members in the group, with events transpiring so quickly that it is unsure as to how many people might have actually been involved. He sustained severe cranial damage, an injury that ultimately proved to be moralistic in nature.

All twelve men in the incident hailed from Boston suburbs, and pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated assault and battery. Local prosecutors are exploring the possibility of raising the severity of the charges due to Alicea's death. Several of the men say that they were unaware that the beating had even taking place with but one, Michael Welch, actually having proof of the supposed “inactivity.”

Defense attorney for some of the men involved, Mark Meehan, has vehemently denied the substance of the case against his clients as well as the substantiality of all work done by local authorities, specifically, whether the right people were apprehended. “It is unlikely that police caught all the right people, and several people who may have been involved have not been arrested.”

Ten of the 12 men said to be involved were held on $100,000 bond each, which is only to be paid in cash. Others who were in attendance at the bar fell victim also, with one of them being ordered to pay $200,000 cash in bail while another was held without bail due to the man already being out on bail for a prior drug trafficking charge.

'Black Folks Need Legacy' Says Billion Dollar Brothers

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

A few decades ago, Michael and Steve Roberts had no idea they would be proud owners of TV stations and hotels- estimated worth $1 billion. Some time ago, the Roberts brothers had next to nothing, now the two African American business owners own a St. Louis hotel that once prohibited black people from entering.

"Black folks need legacy. We have to have examples of successes in order for us to be able to let the generations to come know that many of the successes that occurred by African-Americans in this country can be seen and pointed out and can be emulated," says Michael Roberts, the chairman and CEO of The Roberts Companies.

Michael Roberts brothers, whose office sits on the busy St. Louis street Kingshighway, said They used to call us the Kings of Kingshighway, because we own so much on this street."

The once one-room office in a historically black neighborhood of St. Louis is now a sprawling empire comprised of 76 companies and 1,100 mostly minority employees. From commercial real-estate, to telecommunication companies, the Roberts brothers have their hands in businesses across the board, according to CNN.

"We weren't rich. We weren't poor, but we just never had any money," Michael says of their upbringing.

In addition to being model businessmen, the brothers encourage young people to relentlessly pursue their dreams regardless of a lack of money.

"We tell folks, learn it, get your hands dirty -- you know, a little sweat equity," says Steven Roberts, the president of The Roberts Companies. "For that college student, for that future entrepreneur ... we're saying understand what your passion is, and understand what your product is, too."

Michael Roberts chuckles. He notes that his younger brother has always been good at "putting the meat on the bone." He says he likes to tell youths and college students: "What would your life be like if you could eliminate the fear of failure, and where would you be at this point in life?"

As expected, however, there will be bumps along the road, but Michael maintains his steadfast approach.

"If you eliminate the fear of failure and if you use every moment to its fullest extent -- a very existential concept -- then you are able to take your ideas, your dreams, your aspirations, and you can pursue them with courage and confidence and bravado."

The brothers adhere to one simple business philosophy: You diversify or die. And they don't believe in a full retirement. "What other animal retires?" Michael Roberts says. "If a lion retires today, tomorrow morning he becomes his brother's breakfast."

The brothers use there father as a an example. The 86-year-old, who refuses a paycheck from his sons, frequents the Victor Roberts building named after him.

"I suggest anyone who has a father," Michael says with a laugh, "please hire them, because you can get them for free."

On a recent walk-through at The Roberts Orpheum Theater in downtown St. Louis is a symbol for their quest for legacy. Now that the brothers own the theater that once barred black people from sitting in the highest balcony.

"Mom can sit wherever she likes," Michael Roberts said.

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Lawsuits seem to be the overall theme when it relates to 2009 and as people continue to suffer financially, they continue to find outlets to make sure that they have dividends to fill up their pockets. Former associate “Thug Queen” is suing Bone Thugs-N-Harmony for $22.5 million.

Legally known as Kamilha Greer, the lawsuit was filed after she claimed that she was owed royalties for efforts that she put forth in their 1998 album. Bone Thugs have not been the only to feel the wrath from the Queen as the suit is also going against (more...)

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Jadakiss nearly received the “Kiss of Death” last Friday as he found himself in the middle of a scintillating drug bust. This finding comes after (more...)
