Nigeria Bans Sci-Fi Anti-Apartheid Flick, 'District 9'

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

One of 2009's mega-blockbusters will not see the light of day in one African nation.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria has moved to ban District 9, a science-fiction thriller and one of the biggest movies of the year, citing the depiction of Nigerians in the film.

“We have directed that they should stop public screening of the film,” said Dora Akunyili. “We are not happy about it because it portrays Nigeria in a bad light.”

Akunyili has written executives at Sony's film division asking for an apology while demanding that they remove all references to the film in Nigeria as well as the name of the film's main antagonist, gangster low-life Obesandjo, whom bears an uncanny resemblance in name and character to former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Several members of Nigeria's government, including Akunyili, first viewed the film during a private session last Wednesday. One of their “favorite” scenes featured Obesanjo attempting to cut off and consume the arm of the film's hero in an attempt to gain his otherworldly abilities.

District 9 tells a story of civic unrest in the South African metropolis of Johannesburg after an alien ships mysteriously appears over the city and of the government conspiracy that renders calamitous results.

Student Exposes 'Grade For Cash' Teacher, Files Lawsuit

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Since the genesis of formal educational training, students have griped to unfairness and atrocities found within the classroom, with most wrongdoing committed by the same people that have been tasked with shaping the minds of the future.

Nothing is done wrong in most cases but occasionally there is a case that presents itself otherwise. Glen Cooks Jr. has one of the aforementioned instances.

Five years ago Cooks was a senior at Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans, but unlike his fellow seniors, offered little reason to celebrate. On the verge of failing and becoming nothing more than a statistic, the senior did what any other student would have done in that situation, beg.

Kathleen Stokes, Cooks English teacher, lambasted the student about a lackluster effort that he gave on a term paper only to offer a simple solution to the rectify the grim looking situation. Cooks attests that it was at that moment Stokes offered to alter his grade for a price.

Glenn, I'm going to let you go. But you owe me big time. When you going to fork over that cash?”

That statement was immortalized via a tape recorder hidden in the senior's book bag and is the central piece of evidence involved in the half-decade old lawsuit. The sly student also taped another conversation with his enterprising teacher. Both have been given to federal authorities.

Stokes adamantly attests to her innocence in the matter though she has not been able to explain her part in the matter nor her presence on the tapes.

Cooks graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School with a diploma that cost him over $1,200 in cash and miscellaneous presents.

Federal authorities have yet to seek an indictment in the case.

This is the alleged audio of Kathleen Stokes:

Glenn Beck: "Obama Better For Country Than McCain"

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Glenn Beck has been a lightning rod, shining bright and on fire for all of the wrong reasons. The Fox personality and right-wing demigod has been on the far right side of political conversations. His stance has garnered him a highly devoted following at the cost of advertisers and a myriad of financial backers.

Known for making controversial statements and bashing anything that appears to be aligned with the Democratic Party or President Barack Obama, the emotional pundit is only second in command of conservatives to big daddy Rush, and that is what makes a recent revelation made by him all the more shocking.

Appearing on Katie Couric's new web show, ‘@Katiecouric', the conservative under boss confessed that he felt President Obama was better for the country than John McCain would have been had he won the 2008 election.

“I think John McCain would have been worse for the country than Barack Obama,” said Beck, shortly after chasing his statement with an abashing “I can't believe I'm saying this.”

Beck also stated that he would have “much preferred” Hillary Clinton as President and “may have voted” for her if it she were running against John McCain, who he described as “this weird progressive, like Theodore Roosevelt was.”
