Pre-Teen & Teen Boyfriend Tried To Set Mom On Fire

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

A 11-year-old girl from Tampa, Florida and her 15-year-old boyfriend are in police custody after it was revealed that the two were planning on committing a horrific crime.

Jack Ault and Samantha Broadhead have been charged with attempted murder, and arson after setting Nancy Broadhead's room ablaze, with Nancy in it.

Police documents say that the young couple doused the room in gasoline before starting the fire before feeling the scene in her mother's 2007 Ford Focus.

No clear motive has been set in the attack although local law enforcement believe that the reason is nothing more than “typical teenage angst,” compounded by an argument between the pre-teen and her mother after the latter questioned her daughter about stealing cigarettes from her.

The elder Broadhead, 47, sustained several severe burns and smoke inhalation damage, though it is believe that he injuries are not life threatening.

Samantha is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluations at a local mental facility while her boyfriend is resting in a local juvenile facility.

Ohio Teacher In Hot Water For Burning Cross Into Skin of Students

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

A teacher currently in a battle to keep his job might have shot himself in the foot, figuratively speaking.

John Freshwater, formerly a teacher at Mount Vernon Middle School in Columbus, Ohio, was fired after an internal investigation concluded that he burned crucifixes into several of his students with a high-frequency generator while preaching Christianity during class.

While on trial, Freshwater denied teaching Christianity in the classroom or having ever surveyed students in his eight-grade science class.

Unfortunately for him, questionnaires given to the students surfaced, poking a hole in the misguided teacher's story.

When the forms were mentioned, Freshwater noted that it seemed school officials had “gone through” his classroom.

What a dunce. . .

Bright Idea of the Day: Sell Weed In State-Run Liquor Stores

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

No, the title is not meant to deceive. Representative Mary Lou Dickerson, a state senator from Washington state, is proposing that a new bill be created in the effort to increase state revenue.

Under the proposed measure, marijuana would be available for purchase at all state-run liquor stores and customer 21 and older will be able to purchase state grown weed, paying a tax of 15% per gram.

All monies made from the tax would go toward Washington's ill-funded substance abuse prevention and treatment program which is currently facing substantial budget cuts.

She predicts that the move would eventually net the state as much, if not more, money that is currently generated by alcohol sales.

Alcohol revenue gives the state of Washington over $300 million a year.

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

As Memphis Bleek prepares to return to the music scene with the follow up to his 534 project he's continuing to make headlines.

As previously reported, Bleek was quoted saying that he wouldn't sign to his big homie Jay-Z's Roc Nation emblem to sell records and that he'd rather let the music speak for itself and sell it on his own.

Keeping to that theme (more...)

“Thriller" To Join Congressional Film Library

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

Even the grim reaper cannot stop the entertainment juggernaut that is Michael Jackson.

The recently departed “King of Pop” was posthumously honored by the Library of Congress when they chose to include his landmark music video, “Thriller” in 2009's collection of films chosen to be included in the National Film Registry.

It was one of 25 other films to make it into the well protected vaults of Congress' Library and is the first music video to ever receive the honor, marking its significance in popular American culture in the process.

“Because of the way the recording industry is evolving and changing, we thought it would be good to go back to the development of an earlier seismic shift,” remarked Steve Leggett, coordinator of the National Film Preservation Board, while speaking on the development of the modern music video.

Other films inducted include 1979's “The Muppet Movie” and 1957's “The Incredible Shrinking Man.”

Congress created the library registry in 1989 and now houses 525 films in the effort to safeguard cinema that has an enduring importance to American culture.

Man Awarded $3 Million In Restitution Faces Deportation

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

A Massachusetts man is $3 million dollars wealthier due to misacting on the part of Boston officials.

Ulysses Rodriguez Charles was awarded $3.25 million in restitution after being wrongfully accused in the rape of three women and spending 18 years in the state penitentiary.

Legal representation for the city, William Sinnott, says the move was designed to avert a federal trial.

Charles was found guilty of having perpetrated the infamous 1980 rapes in Boston's Brighton neighborhood.

In spite of his current legal victory, Charles is facing another uphill legal battle; one that would see the 59-year-old man deported to his former home of Trinidad.

Thomas McGowan of Texas was awarded $1.8 million in September, $80,000 for every years spent incarcerated, in addition to lifetime annuity payments of between 40 and $50,000 after spending the greater amount of 23 years in prison for rape and robbery that he did not commit.
