Nelson Mandela Celebrates 20th Anniversary of Freedom From Prison

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Africa is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's freedom from prison.

20 years ago on February 20, 1990 Mandela was released from a Cape Town, South Africa prison after being a political prisoner for 27 years.

Mandela served 27 years behind bars of a life sentence  for his activism against apartheid, the movement that enforced segregation in the country.

His homeland is commemorating his plight in several ways. In particular through the singing of a song dedicated to him with the words,“Nelson Mandela, there is none like you” and by reenacting the historic walk he made from prison signaling the end of apartheid.

Mandela who is 91-years-old now, did not attend the reenactment  but did make a rare appearance at parliament to attend a commemorative speech by South African President Jacob Zuma.

He was also paid tribute to in the summer release of the movie “Invictus” where the country's first Black President was played by Morgan Freeman.

Guards Watch Girl Get Brutally Beaten At Bus Tunnel [Video]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

A 15-year-old girl was recently assaulted in a downtown Seattle bus tunnel.  Footage was captured of the woman being brutally attacked and being kicked in the headed repeatedly.

The disappointing image that's left is the fact that the three security guards present during the attack only sat back and watched as spectators.

With the help of surveillance, the lack of actions from the guards has created a backlash from Metro Transit and King County authorities, who believe that security should have been more proactiveand made a real attempt to break up the beatdown.

"We are very disappointed in what people see in that video," said Metro Transit General Manager Kevin Desmond. "It was absolutely unacceptable."

Once the attack was over, with the girl also having her purse stolen from another member of the attacker's entourage, police arrived on the scene.  Along with the girl being accused of the assault, three others were tracked down by investigators and have all been charged with first-degree robbery.

Court papers show that the victim was under the impression that she would be protected by the guards.

Apparently that wasn't the case as they just stood over her while stomps left footprints across her face.

She added that the attack was pre-emptive as the girl, accompanied by a group of more than 6 teens followed her from a nearby department store.

The Girl also reported that, during the beating, she lost consciousness, but was not hospitalized after the fact.  She has, however, seen a doctor.

The guards were given strict orders the preceding month to “observe and report” on incidents and could only call the police.

King County Sheriff's Sgt. John Urquhart said the guards were right to follow their training.

"If you're a bank teller and you do something other than give them the money, you're going to get fired," Urquhart said. "We don't expect civilians to take police action. In this case, it was a violent fight, and they were outnumbered by this pack of people 3-to-1."

Once again, orders might be to observe and report, but more immediate action needed to be taken.  All of that blunt trauma to the head may have resulted in a fatality.

Job description and humanity are two completely different things.  Is a job really worth witnessing such a heinous act?

8,000 Rapes Reported In East Congo

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

The United Nations is reporting that there were over 8,000 rapes reported last year in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released an email today saying most rapes happened in the eastern Kivu provinces where armed government forces are battling rebel forces.

Over 1 million people were forced to move near Kivu following fighting between the Congolese army, which is supported by the UN and the Rwandan rebel group, The Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda, noted for their affiliation with the Rwanda genocide that killed 800,000 people.

It is estimated that 160 women are raped every week.

Soccer Game Erupts Into Brawl; Was It Racially Motivated? [Video]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Recently, a championship match between Mississippi's two top 6-A soccer teams erupted into violence as a player viciously attacked another on the opposing team.

During the final five minutes of the State High School Soccer Championship match between Gulfport and Northwest Rankin, a white player from Gulfport exploded and brutally attacked a black player from Northwest.

Well, it must be troubling to know that Black people are taking over all sports, but the player wasn't willing to let go of soccer.  He was literally ready to fight for it.

Arlington Shirley, number eight, was the victim of the attack as he was punched in the face at least five times during the assault.

"He decided he was gonna take him out, and he grabbed my son around the throat and threw him down and started punching him," said Terrence Shirley, father of the attacked Northwest player.”

His father added that the referee and authorities did nothing and actually ejected Arlington from the game first, waiting 15 minutes before making the decision to remove the attacker, Zach Windom, from the game.

Had the shoe been on the other foot, however, most would be assured that immediate action would have been taken and the victim wouldn't be the one getting kicked out since they took the beating.

"Obviously he had no idea that it was gonna happen, had no way to defend himself and the guy started pummeling him and if someone had not come over and kind of helped to try to get him off who knows how long it would have gone on. the referees didn't seem like they were gonna stop him," said Arlington's father.

Footage actually shows the referee BACKING away from the fight instead of trying to stop it.

"The incident is under investigation and will be dealt with...All students or coaches ejected from any competition because of their behavior are required to go through on line Star Sportsmanship Training," said Mississippi High School Activities Association spokesperson Dr. Phyfa Eiland.

Taking his son to the University Medical Center, he stated that Arlington has a broken left wrist which will require surgery, along with facial lacerations and abrasions.  He is now fighting to have Windom arrested on assault charges.

They have since hired an attorney and plan to pursue some legal action for the matter.

Police state, however, that charges cannot be filed for the attack as actions on the playing field cannot be classified as criminal.

Can we say BULLSH*T.  C'mon, all together now.

Man, it's a surprise that Tiger Woods lasted so long in golf, but everyone knows how they got Black man out of that.

Watch out Venus and Serena.

Joe Budden Responds to Wife Beater Statement By Tahiry

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

“That wasn't nice.”

As it was reported earlier, a tattoo party with Tahiry and friends led to a moment where the former girlfriend of Joe Budden called the Jersey rapper a wife beater.

Although Budden has been one to endorse his ‘No Comment' campaign, clearly such allegations would force Joey to at least give a few words and paint his own picture of such a statement made.

Stating that he has never hit Tahiry, or any other woman, he did spill that there was a time when he found out she was cheating and an altercation turned physical.

During an interview with Angela Yee, Budden spoke on the physical confrontation after catching Tahiry cheating.

“I mushed the sh*t out of her f*cking a**.  And I think she was asking to get mushed.  She was dead caught cheating and I (more...)

Obama Sings Negro National Anthem & Celebrates Civil Rights Music [Video]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

President Obama held a ceremony in the East Room of the White House yesterday to pay tribute to the music of the Civil Rights Movement.

Some of the performers and guests included Morgan Freeman, Queen Latifah, Smokey Robinson, Natalie Cole, John Legend and Jennifer Hudson.

"It's easy to sing when you're amongst friends. It's easy to sing when times are good. But it is hard to sing when times are rough. It's hard to sing in the face of taunts, fear and the constant threat of violence.

It's hard to sing when folks are being beating... leaders are being jailed... churches are being bombed. It's hard to sing in times like that but times like that are precisely when the power of song is most potent."

DJ Khaled Has Beef On His Hands [Footage Included]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Everybody knows DJ Khaled.  It's that guy that took DJ Clue's spot for yelling up and down the record and jumping around the video more than Puff Daddy ever did in Bad Boy.  Yea, that guy.

It seems that Khaled, who has been known for trying to unite Hip Hop and all the rappers with every compilation that he drops, might actually have an enemy.

There were rumors circulating last year that the DJ got into an altercation with a rapper known as Mike West.  Although the speculation had since calm to a whisper, West has finally stepped up to speak his piece on the situation that went down.

In regards to the rumors of the altercation at WEDT 99 Jams, the rapper stated that everything that was rumored was actually true and adding that Khaled tried to (more...)
