Former NFL Star Emmitt Smith Finds Out His Ancestors Were Bred Like Horses [VIDEO]

“Slaves were bred just like livestock.”

As many stand to pledge allegiance to a flag that is a representation of a land of the free, there are many who fail to realize particular contradictions that revolves around the history of United States.

Making an attempt to retrace his family tree, former NFL player Emmitt Smith came to learn that his ancestors, during the time of slavery, were bred like horses as women were passed down the line.  Even worse, when trying to trace the blood line back to Africa, documentation wasn't readily available, but there were records to trace horses back to Europe showing that slaves were treated worse than animals.

While some call the U.S. the Land of the Free, and others the Land for Those that Can Afford, one thing for certain is that celebration of a country must include highlighting the bad times along with the pleasant times if the country ever has a chance to truly look at the past and try to learn from and become united by it.

Stop ignoring the elephant in the room.
