A filmmaker in Indonesia is set to release a new film on the childhood of President Barack Obama.

Director Damien Dematra made the announcement Monday saying that “Obama Anak Menteng” or Obama The Menteng Kid has begun shooting in the city of Bandung, southeast of Jakarta.

President Obama lived in Jakarta with his mother and Indonesian stepfather as a baby from 1967 to 1971.

Dematra sayd he wants the film to show how the diversity of Jakarta influenced Obama into become the man he is today.

He previously released a fiction book on The President titled “Obama, Child of Menteng “where he based the plot on interviews with neighbors and friends of Obama’s family.

Demartra tells the Associated Press,

“We want to show the world that Obama lived in Indonesia’s pluralistic environment, with different religions and races, and his experiences of pluralism led him to become a great man.”

The director hopes to have the film completed by June 17 when the President visits the country.

Former neighbors of the President were recruited to make sure the child playing young Obama mimicked his mannerisms.

The film is described as a 100 minute film available in English and the Indonesian language.
