Shots Fired Again...Beanie Sigel Back to Dissing Jay-Z [Video]

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

Just when Jay Z thought it was safe to come out and play again, the Broad Street Bully has returned to the playground to continue wreaking havoc on S. Carter.

With his issues believed to be dead and gone after the close of 2009, Beanie Sigel is still at it with his anti-Jay campaign, which he showcased during a performance featuring Freeway, Peedi Crakk and other State Property affiliates.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.  Clearly Sigel didn't get the memo that Hov wasn't really with the beef these days, but he sure looks to want to pull the fight out of the dog, or just stay relevant.

Geometry Teacher Uses Hypothetical Assassination Plot On President Obama To Teach Kids

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

An Alabama teacher has been suspended after using a hypothetical assassination plot on President Obama to teach a class.

According to reports, geometry teacher Gregory Harrison was teaching his high school math class about angles when he said,

"If you're in this building, you would need to take this angle to shoot the president.'"

Although initially the school didn't find the comments threatening, after receiving calls from all over the country about the lack of severity for the teacher's punishment, the school is now considering terminating Harrison.

“There is nothing that can be said to rationalize what he said. We take this very seriously.” School Superintendent Phil Hammonds said. "There is no place in our society for a person to make these comments.”

Roy Sexton, special agent in charge of Birmingham's Secret Service office, said his agency spoke with the teacher after being told about his comment, but there was no ‘credible threat', so no charges were filed and the investigation was closed.

Hammonds said he will talk to teachers and students before recommending to the school board what action, if any, might be appropriate. It was not immediately known how long the teacher may be on leave.

Hammonds said the school system in Alabama's most populous county was embarrassed by what Harrison said.

As of press time a decision regarding Harrison's employment had not been reached.

Do you feel like people are overreacting or should the teacher be terminated, let us know?

Former NBA Star Manute Bol Hospitalized For Kidney Failure

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Former NBA player Manute Bol has been hospitalized after suffering kidney failure.

According to published reports, the 7-foot-6 former center had recently returned from visiting his native country of Sudan to aide in the fight against election corruption, when he fell ill.

"I believe he is going to survive this, but he's had a total kidney failure," Tom Prichard, director of Sudan Sunrise, a group that promotes reconciliation in Sudan, said Tuesday. "If he'd stayed two more days in Sudan, I don't think he'd be alive right now."

According to Prichard, the skin around Bol's mouth was so sore that he went 11 days without eating and could barely talk. Prichard also states that Bol may have contracted the disease as a reaction to taking kidney medication in Africa.

Upon his return, Bol has undergone three dialysis treatments and has developed Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, a condition that has caused him to lose patches of skin.

Manute Bol & Muggsy Bogues Back In The day

Bol was in Sudan to help build a school in conjunction with Sudan Sunrise but stayed longer than anticipated after the president of southern Sudan asked him to make election appearances and use his influence to counter corruption in Bol's home county.

Bol's wife and newborn daughter have traveled from their home in Kansas to be at the hospital. Bol still hasn't met his daughter because visitors are restricted, having to wear mask, gown, and gloves to prevent infection.

Manute Bol had a career which spanned over 10 years in the NBA, playing for various teams including the 76ers and the Miami Heat.

Bol ended his career with totals of 1,599 points, 2,647 rebounds, and 2,086 blocks, having appeared in 624 games over 10 seasons. Until 2007, Bol had remained among the elite, named as the second player in NBA History to have a career blocks-per-game average of 3.34, trailing only Mark Eaton. Bol was also the only player in NBA history to block more shots than points scored, blocking 2,086 shots and scoring 1,599 points.

Man Arrested For Beating Child To Death With Basketball Shoe [Video]

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

A Memphis, Tennessee man is in police custody after authorities say he beat a 2-year-old to death with a basketball shoe after she accidentally defecated on the floor.

Police report that 23-year-old Calvin Jones was babysitting his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter when the child had an accident on the floor.

Jones told police that he “disciplined” the child with a basketball shoe and the back of his hand, smacking her several times.

When the child's mother, 21-year-old Anisha Alford returned, the child reportedly complained of not feeling well and was cold to the touch.

A witness tells police they saw the child gagging and spitting up with her eyes rolling in the back of her head but say Alford refused to take her to a hospital.

Instead the couple went to sleep and woke up in the morning to find the child dead.

Jones faces charges of first degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Alford has been charged with first degree child abuse as well.
