Rick Ross: "Teflon Don" Album Review

Say what you will about Rick Ross aka Ricky Rozay, but the man knows how to make hits.

With the summer Anthem B.M.F. thumping out of everyone's trunk, the Bawse hopes that his 4th studio album well surpass the success of his past three and make him a top 10 rapper in everyone's list.

However, don't be quick to judge Teflon Don based off the hit single, Officer Ricky has a variety of music that will have you thuggin out as well as getting on your grown man ish.

[Check out the rest of the Teflon Don album review below]

Ricky may not be lyrically the best rapper out there, well….not even close, but when it comes to Teflon Don you can expect some lyrical content. Opening up the album with a banger from the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, the album quickly changes styles and slows down for the next track which features Hip-Hop legend Jay-Z. Some people may start getting their conspiracy theories ready after seeing the title of the collaboration is “Free Mason,” but instead of looking for Illuminati references you should just enjoy the lyrical manslaughter that both of the emcees display.

“My top back like JFK, they want to push my top back like JFK. So I JFK, join forces with the Kings and we ate all day!”

Ross continues the softer mood with his next tracks “Tears of Joy” and “Maybach Muisc III” both which bring the mature and soothing singing between Cee-Lo Green and Eryka Badu, while also adding veteran bars from rappers T.I. and Jadakiss. With production from No I.D. and a 2nd appearance from the J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, these tracks show that “grown man music” that many people praise Ross for and categorize him as an elite emcee because of.

Maybach Music III

The grown a** man music continues with his first single of the album “Super High,” and “Live Fast, Die Young” which will both have you imagining yourself smoking a cigar on a yacht in South Beach.

With added vocals from both Ne-Yo and Kanye West, the album begins to seem like a compilation album as the first track is the only one that doesn't have a feature. Whether this takes away from the album varies with different people, but an eleven track album with fifteen features, definitely sets up an argument about how much Ross can carry by himself.

The next couple of tracks would help those who agree Ross needs help to hold the album as “No.1,” “M.C. Hammer,” and “B.M.F.” seem to drag after awhile.

Although you cannot take away from Lex Luger's crazy trunk banging beats, it does seem that M.C. Hammer and B.M.F. are the exact same songs, and with lyrics like

“My gun dirty, my brick clean, I'm riding dirty, my d*ck clean. She talk dirty but her mouth clean, B*tch I'm MC hammer... I'm about cream.”

I'm not sure if I would consider this song lyrically even decent, but it serves its purpose as two of the biggest summer anthems for systems and clubs everywhere.

Ending the album with “Aston Martin Music” and “All The Money In The World,” it's good to see Ricky back on the grown man ish and with features from Drizzy Drake and Chrisette Michele some may be surprised that “Aston Martin Music” may be as good as “Maybach Music III.”

Whichever car Ross is making music about, Ross is putting it down and deserves some kind of royalty check!

Overall this album is definitely one for a variety of all Hip-Hop heads. Yes, I know you've heard that before, but with banging production from Lex Luger and J.U.S.T.I.C.E League, to that laid back straight chilling style Ross gives you, this album has tracks that can have everyone bouncing to in the club as well as tracks that you can cruise to and have you feeling like a true “BAWSE!” Though the eleven tracks with fifteen features may seem like a shortage of Ross, features from the best in the business bring more versatility to the album and will feature at least one of your favorite artists.

Pick this album up no matter what kind of Hip-Hop you like, and bring a little South Beach in your life.

Who wrote this article? If yall just getting hip to Rick Ross then yall are wayyyyyy past late! Did yall even listen to Deeper Than Rap? Im getting my copy of Teflon Don today, with HIGH expectations!!
Ricky is always in my starting five lineup!

Rick's album is pretty good. I must say that it will not disappoint. The problem I had with it was by the time it had finally came out, I heard the majority of the songs already. Damn the internet!!! But I still recommend his album to anyone that is a true Hip Hop fan.

Rick Ross kills it on the Teflon Don! The album rocks, got it from thismysong.com and it's amazing!

I have to agree with the review of this album. I wish it had more tracks, but they are solid songs. J.U.S.T.I.C.E League's production has been catching attention for awhile now. This is the first album I've bought in past few months. Worth the money

mayne this the worse garbage I ever heard in my life, officer ricky need to retire and go back to locking people up. I see why the real rick ross sued him cuz i wouldnt want that garbage *****ociated with my name either.

tired of people hating on ross!!THE MAN MAKES GOOD MUSIC PERIOD!!!FORGET THE DAMN CO TALK AND ALL THE OTHER BULL***** THE MAN IS A RAPPER AND HES IN THE BUSINESS OF MAKING MUSIC AND HES DAMN GOOD AT WHAT HE DOES!!4 albums and they all are good and he has grown as a rapper and his beat selection is crazy!!!!!!!ross is the man quit hatin and give credit where credit is due and respect good music!!!!!!!!!!

Teflon don = GARBAGE ------>NEXT

congrads rr, you've got the usa listening to you...remember that includes some folks that are rlistening when you don't know they are...

Exactly what I expected haven't bought a CD since "deeper than rap" and almost forgot what CD quality sounded like. Keep bringing it Rozay!!!!

I cant fathom going to cop a hiphop cd by a police officer. I understand why they say hip hop is dead!! this wuldnt be happening if pac was alive. And all u officer ricky lovers are just as fake!! "Its only in america that a correction officer can become a teflon don" smh

yall need 2 stop hating on ross, hes doing his thing and his music is on point, ppl are so wack and lame, so what if the dude was a c.o, what that got to do with his flow and his immaculate beats, ross aint let me down yet, quit hating, yall the ones probably cant even get a c.o job, l.o.l

For tha record, BobTyranT DOES NOT SUPPORT ILLUMINATI MUSIC! Especially from a n*gga dat steals names from real ones dat he used 2 lock up! Killuminati All Week!

we disagree about his lyrical abilities, probably due to coming up in different regions but besides that good review...ross been a bawse...he's only put out one suspect album so far... i dont care for most of his subject content but the beats and his flow are always on point...

Booooo ***** u gay. Ross ain't *****odys boss if anything he's an entry level worker for the powers tht be. But back to music...just cuz ur beats r hard DOES NOT make you or your cd a must-buy. If u never talk about anything concious then ur a waste of our time. And 11 tracks?!? That's all u could do? Along with 15 features... If u add all ur verses together by themselves it would be 5 tracks of hot garbage wit a metaphor here and there

This album is a cl*****ic for real. I know business owners who sale major drugs. I know there are c.o's who sale drugs and police. What does a job have to do with making music. I am only worried about music that i can relate to , not the rapper or musicisian healing my soul. Michael Jackson allegedly molested kids so what should we do??? Not feel his music. THE ONLY Mistake Rick Ross Made in His WHOLE Career was DENYING he was a c.o. he should have owned up to it and asked this simple question: YES, I had a job and I also had many others in my life..don't you multi task? .. AND TO THE REAL RICK ROSS you had better luck siding with RICK ROSS THE RAPPER and got in where you fit in... and also your dumb ***** (Real Rick Ross) should be SUING THE GOVERNMENT FOR USING YOU LIKE DIRT ON DOG *****..YOU WERE A ***** IN A SINISTER PLOT..If there is an Entrapment defense this is the closest I have ever seen to p***** the *****ysis test... The ***** that gets me is It is Do*****ented how the C>I.A. played him and hes worried about a rapper making him relevent. SMH

I must say...this is some good music! I am tired of hearing about who's real in the game and who's fake. These rap cats aren't anything but entertainers. You gotta be a damn fool if you are actually rapping about how "many birds you flippin." Because if it was true, you entrapping yourself. Honestly, I don't care about all this nonsense. I just wanna here good music....plain and simple. Rick Ross' album, along with Big Boi's new album, has really satisfied my appetite. All the cats trying to live vicariously through lyrics, grow up and get a live...while you at it, get a career.
