Police Probe Connection Between Lorenzen Wright And Suspected Drug Kingpen

Memphis, Tennessee police are investigating then possible connection between Lorenzen Wright, the former NBA player that was found dead Wednesday, and a suspected drug kingpen.

The body of Lorenzen Wright was discovered with gun-shot wounds behind bushes of a busy street. Police originally thought his wounds were self inflicted but are now considering the possibility of homicide.

According to court documents, Wright told the FBI in 2008 that he sold two luxury vehicles to Bobby Cole, a man who admitted to having ties to alleged drug kingpen Craig Petties.

The documents do not say however if Wright knew about Cole's connection to the drug organization an accused drug kingpin charged with racketeering and conspiracy in six murders.

Cole later offered to turn over three vehicles he bought from Wright with drug money including a Cadillac Escalade SUV and 2008 Mercedes Benz S63.

Police say that the alleged kingpen, Petties was living in Mexico but ordering the killings of rivals and suspected informants in Memphis.

Police believe he ordered at least six hits on those he thought slighted him.

Petties, who could face the death penalty if convicted, has pleaded not guilty to charges and has denied requests for prison interviews.
