Former Browns Player Sues Team For Negligence

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A former center for the Cleveland Browns is suing the team after he says he contracted a life threatening staph infection at the team's training camp that ultimately ended his career.

LeCharles Bentley filed the lawsuit Thursday and is seeking at least $25,000 in damages for alleged fraud and negligent misrepresentation.

His attorney Shannon Polk says the former football star nearly died from an infection he contracted at the team's facility while he was rehabbing an injured knee.

Polk tells the Associated Press,

“They told him their facility was the best but they never told him about a host of unsanitary conditions there. And they never told him about the list of others who contracted staph before he chose to rehab there."

Bentley never played a Game for the Browns; the athlete tore his left patellar tendon in training camp in 2006 and never recovered from the infection.

Bentley tells the AP that had four operations since being injured, the final two to clean out the staph infection, which ate away at his tendon.  Bentley also says the virus became so severe that doctors considered amputating his leg and one point weren't sure he'd make it through the night.

At least six players for the Browns have had staph infections including former receiver Joe Jurevicius, who settled a similar lawsuit with the team in June.

Woman Arrested For Pouring Boiling Water On Mother's Face [Video]

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A Pennsylvania woman and her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday after police say they plotted to kill her mother by pouring quarts of scalding hot water on her face.

23-year-old Alisa Loump told investigators that she tried to murder her mother because she disapproved of her relationship and says she was on the phone with her boyfriend 18-year-old Antoine Walker of Edinburgh, Indiana when she got the idea.

Police report that when they went to arrest the woman she was on the phone with an ear piece in her ear.

Officers retrieved the ear piece and cell phone but noticed the line was still in use.

Police say they then identified themselves and asked who was on the phone, to which a man replied "Antoine".

Antoine then allegedly asked police, "Are you arresting [Alisa] for what she did to her mom?"

When the arresting officers asked, "What are you talking about?"

Antoine answered, "For pouring water on her mom. You know that was 50/50? Her mom didn't want us together so we came up with the idea to kill her mom using boiling water."

Walker is believed to have encouraged her to pour eight quarts of water on her mother 49-year-old Jennie Loump so that she would die from shock.

The mother has 2nd degree burns to over 70% of her body and has been put into an induced coma for treatment.

She is in critical condition.

Walker has been taken into custody and will be extradited to Pennsylvania.

Both Walker and Loump are charged with attempted homicide and conspiracy.

Alisa  is also charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
