Tuesday, August 17th, 2010Teen Sets Infant On Fire With Nail Polish Remover
Tuesday, August 17th, 2010A 14-year-old Ohio boy was taken into police custody after authorities say he set an 11-month-old baby on fire using acetone nail polish remover.
The teen, whose identity is being withheld, was taken into custody on charges of aggravated arson, domestic violence and two counts of felonious assault for the Friday night attack on the infant, Melina.
Police say the boy was enraged with his 17-year-old cousin Jasmin Pyles who was lying in the bed with the infant.
A witness told police he saw Jasmin lying in bed next to Melina and watched the 14-year-old boy pour nail polish remover onto Jasmin's pants which spilled onto the floor and the sleeping baby.
The witness says the boy then pulled out a lighter and when told by Pyles to “Put the (expletive) lighter down”, he replied, “I don't to (expletive) listen to you!” and set her ablaze.
The infant was instantly ignited and the teen rushed to a neighbor's nearby home who called police.
The baby was air lifted to a hospital and listed in serious condition but has since been released.
Pyles was also taken to the hospital with wounds on her legs described as “red and blistered with a portion of the skin pulling away.”
The infant's mother, 24-year-old Erica Hall, says the Pyles is the child's godmother and often lets her watch her.
The boy reportedly burned his cousin and the baby because she refused to give him a cigarette.
