Steve Harvey Attempts To Lose 21 Pounds In 21 Days With Controversial Diet

Comedian Steve Harvey isn't laughing about the couple of extra pounds he has packed on recently.

According to a report by the New York Daily News, the new Family Feud host is going to get in shape using the "Lose 21 Pounds in 21 Days" Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox.”

The controversial diet requires participants to abstain from any solid foods and only sip on fruit and vegetable juices frequently throughout the day, for three weeks. This method is believed to speed up their metabolism and burn more fat but many experts say its not a healthy alternative.

One physician, Anne Fletcher MS, RD says these crash diets can hurt more than help.

"You can't live on a diet like this because it simply does not have adequate calories or protein," says Fletcher. "Not only does protein make you feel full longer, but solid food makes you full longer."


Experts also point out that many people follow this rigorous detox regimen only to gain the weight back when they go back to eating real food, because of metabolism decreases caused by not eating solids.
