Ray-J touched down in Atlanta this weekend for the Soul Train Awards and while in town, reached out to local media to promote his album and single.
The executive producer of “A Family Business” starring himself, his sister Brandy and their parents spoke on his upcoming album and told HipHopWired that the entire project is executive produced by himself and Rodney “DarkChild” Jerkins.
According to Ray, Rodney Jerkins is his favorite producer to work with because of his true understanding of an artist.
“Rodney Jerkins is the greatest to me as far as putting together a body of work, understanding an artist and understanding the craft and hard work it takes to put together a body of work. He’s my favorite producer to work with and I’m happy that he and I executive produced this project and we’re gonna come out so strong.”
The famed R&B singer and reality TV star also spoke on his new single “Last Wish.”
Dubbing it an “honest song”, Ray says he originally wanted to release another track to the masses but chose a record that was synonymous with his personal life.
“Last Wish” is a very important song to me because it’s an honest song. I had a single called “One Thing Leads To Another” which is a smash featuring Pit Bull and we were gonna release that record first but with what I was going through with my relationship, I decided to go with this song first.
This song is just about my last wish to take care of my responsibilities and stand up as a man and take care of my girl but sometimes it’s hard to reknew that trust. It’s about any last wish anyone could have from any angle. From love, from pain, from hurt, what’s your last wish? The metaphors could be so much more.”
Speaking on his upcoming album Raydiation 2, Ray says that it will include several Hip-Hop features but most importantly will display his true vocal ability.
“I got a few rappers on it Gucci Mane, Ludacris, Pitbull, but this album is just a personal album to me. I don’t’ think people a lot of people understand how passionate music is to me, how gifted I am vocally. You hear my sister and you know my sister comes with it vocally so I just wanna showcase my true talent to everyone. I’m not just about television shows and reality TV, this music is very important to me. “
Raydiation 2 hits stores in 2011.
