Rapper/producer David Banner was inspired by a local group of California based high school football players after hearing of the issues the youth were dealing with off the football field.

The Grammy Award winning musician had a talk with the Buena Park Coyotes, who made it to the playoffs for the first time in ten years despite their setbacks during the semester.

Banner was inspired by the team’s urgency to move forward in spite of dealing with issues such as domestic violence, peer pressure, gang influence and in some cases, death.

“All of my life people, even in my own family, told me I would never make it,” David Banner shared with the teens. “When I went on to graduate from Southern University with my bachelor’s with a GPA of 3.9, I felt like I could do anything. Then when I went on to make it in rap, I knew I could do anything. I knew it was bigger than rap though.”

Banner talked about the adversities within his own career to the team, and how he dealt with them while  trying to establish his music career.

“The one thing I want you guys to take away from this is whether you win or lose a football game, it’s bigger than football,” David Banner told the athletes. “It’s about staying true to who you are and knowing you can make a differnce and never giving up.” Buena Park lost in the first round of the playoffs but won the respect of their league.”

David Banner will be releasing his collaborative effort with legendary producer 9th Wonder titled Death of A Popstar, dropping December 21st.
