Singer/songwriter Kandi Burress is delving back into the world of vocals, through the release of her Kandi Koated album.

Atlanta’s Whiskey Park played back drop to the “ATL Housewife’s” album release party where guests were given a preview of her smooth vocals and melodic tones.

HipHopWired was on the scene and took time to chat with the former XScape singer who told us how she feels about releasing an album after all these years, what her fans can expect and when she’ll collaborate with the other half of rap/vocal group “Peach Candy” in the studio.

According to Kandi, while she’s excited to release her first album in a number of years, she just hopes that her loyal fans will hit retail stores and give her album a chance.

“I’m excited but I’m nervous because it’s been so long but I really hope people give it a chance. I put my heart into this album. I just want people to be open and listen to it.”

Kandi also adds that on her special project, she shied away from features only opting to put two very special guests on the album; her old bandmate Tameka “Tiny” Cottle and her daughter Riley.

“I didn’t put a lot of features on the album, Tiny’s on the album. Ne-Yo and I wrote a song together and you can hear him in the background but it’s not an official duet…My daughter, that’s the most important feature. She’s doing an interlude with me.”

When asked about her Peach Candy collaborator Rasheeda who was also in the building, Kandi says that their work together is still ongoing and she’s often featured on the ATL emecee’s mixtapes.

“We are, I’m always on her mixtapes but we’re probably gonna do something else because I keep getting people asking me when Peach Candy is gonna come out. Right now I just wanted to do something separate. My solo album is very R&B and what I do with her is strictly Hip-Hop—two totally different things. I wanted to make sure that there was a difference.”

Kandi also left one last message for her fans,

“Thank you for supporting me all these years and for this opportunity to come back and for giving me an ear. Check the album out!”
