A couple of teen boys were implicated Tuesday (Dec. 11) morning, in the weekend shooting death of a woman, over a pack of cigarettes.
Todavia S. Cleckley, and Marcus Velasquez, both 14 and residents of Pennsylvania, will be charged as adults in the shooting death of 22-year-old Kayla Paterson, last Saturday (Dec. 8).
Paterson, a mother to a 23-month-old daughter, was standing outside her home wither her boyfriend, just after 3 p.m., when she was shot in the stomach.
One of the teens reportedly pulled out a firearm and shot at her from across the street, following an argument with the couple about cigarettes.
According to Paterson’s boyfriend, William Bailey, he was leaving a nearby store when a trio of teen boys started following him. “I didn’t look at them,” he said. “I didn’t acknowledge them.” Once he made it home, Paterson approached the boys saying “Why don’t you guys get a job?”
Shots rang out moments later. After being struck Paterson said “I can’t feel my legs. I want to lay down.” She passed away at roughly 5:25 p.m. at Allegheny General Hospital.
Both youngsters have both been charged with conspiracy to commit criminal homicide, while Velasquez—who has been identified as the gunman— faces criminal homicide, two misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, and two felony counts of aggravated assault. The third teen, 13-year-old Kyle Goosby Jr. was slapped with a criminal conspiracy to commit homicide charge, but reportedly fled the scene once the gun was pulled out. “He didn’t want any part of that,” Bailey added.
Like most teenagers, Valesquez and Cleckley were Facebook users. Less than 12 hours after the shooting, a photo of the two boys pointing and holding guns towards a camera was uploaded to the social networking site.
